  1. endocytosis is when a cell takes things in and exocytosis is when a cell releases things like whaste.

  2. Endo = enter

    Exo = exit

    ~cytosis = movement of materials through the cell membrane

  3. Internalization of materials by invagination of the cell membrane is endocytosis.

    Expulsion of materials by out-pushing of the plasma membrane is exocytosis.

  4. Simplified

    -endocytosis is taking something into the cell

    -exocytosis is expelling something out of the cell

  5. More specifically, endocytosis is the engulfing of materials from outside of the cell using the cell membrane and exocytosis is releasing vesicles out of the cell.

  6. Endo means "in"

    Exo means "out"

  7. endocytosis is taking material into the cell. there are 2 types of endocytosis-1.phagocytosis, which means "cellular eating" (anything but water) 2. pinocytosis, which means "cellular drinking" (water)

    exocytosis is taking material out of the cell.

    bulk transport across the plasma membrane occurs by endocytosis and exocytosis.

    in exocytosis, transport vesicles migrate to the plasma membrane, fuse with it, and release their contents.

    in endocytosis, molecules enter cells within vesicles that pinch from the plasma membrane.
