  1. There are 6 general characteristics of all living organism. One of them is cells. All living organisms are composed of one or more cells, ranging from single-celled bacterium to complex organisms, composed of thousands and thousands of cells. Another characteristic of life is organization. Patterns can be seen throughout the entire biological world. Humans exhibit specialized organ systems that are basically the same from human to human, and also bilateral symmetry, shared with many organisms. Some can be radially symmetrical. A 3rd characteristic is energy use. Cells need to be able to use energy to perform its functions to be considered living, called metabolism. A 4th characteristic is homeostasis, the ability of an organism to regulate some conditions internally. A 5th characteristic is growth - all organisms have the capacity for growing, changing, and developing into more complex things. And lastly, all living organisms can reproduce.
