Your work as the botanist for the Xyloph Terraforming Project has been productive. The project specialists are using what you've taught them in the development of the ecosystem characteristics of the new planet. The project has progressed to the point of planning for seasonal changes. It's time for you to discuss plant life spans and the different strategies plants use to live a specified amount of time. Your explanation should include, but not be limited to, the following:

• The differences between an annual, biennial, and perennial plant.

• The general characteristics of each type of plant (annual, biennial, and perennial).

• An example of each type of plant.

Your answer should be two or three well-developed paragraphs.

thank you for your help

  1. That's funny, getting people to write your paper for you.

an annual plant is a plant that usually germinates, flowers and dies in one year.

a biennial plant, a plant which blooms every two years

A perennial plant or perennial (Latin per, "through", annus, "year") is a plant that lives for more than two years

The differences ARE the characteristics (redundant question)

An example would be - TAKE SOME TIME TO LEARN TO USE YOUR INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE.

  2. Annuals - Plants that perform their entire life cycle from seed to flower to seed within a single growing season. All roots, stems and leaves of the plant die annually. Non woody. Only the dormant seed bridges the gap between one generation and the next.

Egs. corn, lettuce, pea, cauliflower, watermelon, bean, zinnia and marigold

Perennials - Plants that persist for many growing seasons. Generally the top portion of the plant dies back each winter and regrows the following spring from the same root system (e.g. Purple Coneflower). Many perennial plants do keep their leaves year round and offer attractive borders and groundcover (e.g. Tickseed, Shasta and Ox-Eyed Daisy). NOTE: WHEN STARTING PERENNIAL PLANTS FROM SEED, BLOOMS WILL BE OBSERVED IN EITHER THE SPRING OR SUMMER OF THE SECOND YEAR AND EACH YEAR THEREAFTER (e.g. Ox-Eyed Daisy planted in the spring of 1996 will not bloom until the spring of 1997).

Egs - evergreen perennials include Begonia and banana.

deciduous perennials include goldenrod and mint.

Biennials - Plants which require two years to complete their life cycle. First season growth results in a small rosette of leaves near the soil surface. During the second season's growth stem elongation, flowering and seed formation occur followed by the entire plant's death.

EGS....corn (maize; Zea mays; Cyperales), and squashes (Cucurbita; Violales), as well as among the wildflowers, such as some buttercups (Ranunculus) and larkspurs (Delphinium).  Swiss chard, carrots, beets, Sweet William, and parsley.
