  1. SOPHIE IS RIGHT, THEY ARE 2 SEPERATE DISORDERS, BUT THEY ARE SIMILAR. IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR SOMEONE WHO IS BI POLAR TO HEAR VOICES.

  2. there is a diagnosis called schizoaffective disorder which is a combination of schizophrenia and either bipolar or depression.  depending on the psychiatrist depends on the diagnosis.  there are so many different diagnoses and so many different criteria to meet.  many times they are treated with similar medications.  also, it is pretty common for your diagnosis to change...hope this was helpful.

  3. Bipolar and schizophrenia are related, but seperate. Both have psychosis as a symptom, but psychosis is more common in schizophrenia.

In between the two is schizoaffective disorder, which has the mood swings of bipolar, but psychosis can occur at any time, not just when manic.

  4. Bipolar disorder is an affective (mood) disorder while schizophrenia is a  thought disorder.  It is possible to have both at the same time; however, an affective disorder does not evolve into schizophrenia.  Both conditions need treatment, and a psychiatrist is the medical specialty that provide diagnosis and effective treatment. Treatment for both conditions rely on the patient consistently taking the medicine prescribed. The main cause for relapse in both instances is failure to continue taking medication when the troublesome symptoms subside.

  5. two very seperate disorders, neither can cause the other.

The similarities between them is the strange emotions (schizo - lack of or extreme, bipolar - sevre mood swings, highs and lows) and also the fact that during these mood swings in bipolar it is possible to become psychotic, which is part of schizophrenia

  6. two seperate disorders.

bipolar is a disorder that involves major mood swings,

where as schizophrenia involves hearing voices that arent heard by many others. though it is possible to have both.
