Question:

Bird's nest in 3rd story of house... help!?

My boyfriend's room is on the 3rd floor of an older stone house. Birds have been nesting in a hole in the house that's between his bedroom and bathroom. He's tried to patch up the hole from the outside (by leaning out of the window) with some hardening foamy patch-up stuff, but this morning we found a bird flying around his bedroom, so it obviously didn't work. Who should he call to get someone professional in to patch up the holes? What's the estimated cost of this? Also, is there a way for them to make sure there are no birds in the nest or in the holes before they patch them up? I'd hate for them to get trapped in there with no way out...

  1. During the hottest part of the day, when the birds will be gone, cover the hole good with silicone. Birds hate the smell of it. For a few days afterwards though, you still may have birds flying around looking for their nest. Eventually, when they can't find it through the silicone, they'll move on to building a nest elsewhere.
