Question:

Bird Bird Having A 'Dummy Spit?

Joel Garner has launched a stinging attack on the West Indies team, calling them lazy, unfit & not having the 'right stuff' for test cricket! This is not the W.I. we all know. Was he being unfair, or just facing facts?

  1. Big bird says right exept Shivnarine ...othera are "as you called dummies"...lOl~

  2. The One is right, this is an entirely different era to that in which Garner played. He had the very best of players backing him then.

  3. It sounds extroardinary to publicly attack your own team that way. But frustration may have a lot to do with it of course. After all, Garner played in the W.Indies best era.

  4. this sounds like Greg Matthews & other ex players critisizing Ponting and his team.they are just jealous

  5. thats not too nice of him

  6. There may be some semblance in truth about what he is trying to say. However, he played in side that was the envy of the world at the time!

Greenidge, Haynes, Richards, Lloyd, Marshall, Roberts, Holding were just some of the names that spring to mind that were in the West Indies squad at the time Ganer was playing in the 70's and 80's.

So of course he could be confident in his side’s ability to perform at the time!

So, no matter how much training these guys put in, they are never going to stack up to the team he played in.

Now I am not making excuses for them as there is no place in international sport for complacency - especially when you represent your country. But if Big Bird is trying to compare when he played to this current group, it is unreasonable.

  7. The West Indies were in decline for a long time a test win was very rare recently they have showed they are improving with some good test wins Joel Garner's comments probably have some truth to them because the Windies do have talent but they tend to show no application on the field especially in batting and fielding the talent is there but a few of their players don't show the passion or will to succeed no matter what like Chanderpaul he shows what applying yourself on the field can do he always values his wicket and even when fielding like the run-out of Michael Clarke while some of the others commitment is very questionable

  8. Well, that's hardly an original statement from Garner! Fair enough if he was talking about the West Indian team that turned up in England last year (it was schoolboy stiff), but in the current series against Australia they have shown real commitment.

It sounds as though Joel Garner is rather bitter, and perhaps stating what has been obvious to everyone else for the past ten years. Perhaps it is because he sees all the money that players can make now, without being as dedicated as he was.

  9. Yes he was VERY fair in his assessment of the new "Windies",

but boy is he one to talk - Mr Lazy himself.

  10. He said What??...

    C'Mon Mun,That just ain't cricket!!...

Well obviously Joel is concerned about the team he made so famous..

Yes it sound like their is a heck of a lot of frustration with in the big boy..

i can understand where he is coming from.Back in the 80's the West Indies were the best team in the world, but lately they have been playing as if they are a little 'minnow' team..They have great talent in that team,we are seeing it with our test series over there..They have the players in that that team who 'could' make them the great team they used  to be....
