Question:

Bird Distressed?

My Sun Conure, Java, has been having slower reaction times and she just sits around. Last night took out her favorite happy hut, where she sleeps at night and replaced it with a different on to wash the other. She does not like this one because she can not sleep inside it like her other one.

Did she not sleep as well?

I recently put back in her other happy hut and she sat inside it for a while and now she is playing with her toys and is eating again.

Was this change in her environment the reason for her change in personality?

THANKS

  1. Things like this can definately stress your bird out.  Any change to the cage or enviroment as the bird knows it can cause stress, sometimes severe enough that the bird starts to pick feathers or mutilate himself...

  2. Most likely yes. If she is used to a certain environment, that would be described as her home, then changing her environment would be changing her home. That's like living in California, where it has perfect weather, then moving to the Arctic Circle or a desert and freeze or sweat all day. So having someone change her home will effect her personality until she either gets her home back or gets used to the change.
