Bird Emergency!?

Question

My dad found a bird spinning round on its back today and my mum thinks it has broken it's neck as it cannot get onto its belly.

Does anyone know how we can help it? (besides killing it)

The dark box idea is good advice. Even if the bird is sick or injured, at least it will have a calm place and no predators (that would be you) looking at it. Then take it to the SPCA in the morning.

that is super sad but you got to it in time call a vet and check if it is broken and while you go to the vet(or the vet comes) bandage it

well, have you tried moving it on its belly? it could have a broken neck, in which case you really can't do much about. im sorry......thats so sad!

leave it alone because if it gets used to humans, then he will never learn to survive on its own

This bird either has a broken neck or it is suffering from some kind of disease that affects the nerves and muscles. (vertigo) Vertigo is a symptom of disease, The problem with birds in general is that they only have about 20 diseases that they catch. The problem is diagnosing the sickness. They have the same symptoms for almost all sickness.

This bird needs to be destroyed. You don't say if you have birds as pets? If you do you need to wash the clothes that you had on while messing with this bird. Most bird diseases can be vectored trough the air.

There is a serious bird disease that is called Paramyxovirus. If it gets into your birds it will kill about 75% of your birds. I have a friend who raises pigeons. He has about 1,500 birds. He lost exactly 75% of his birds when he let a stray into his loft and it was carrying the disease. So be careful. Once a bird shows the symptoms of a disease it is almost to late to do anything about it.

In the future if you run into something like this you need to stay away from the bird. You can carry the disease back to your birds/family pets on your clothes.

Call a local wildlife rescue, you may have to Google it to find one in your area.

If you can't get a hold of one of them, call an emergency vet.  They will likely humanely euthanize the bird if they think it is suffering.

Your mother is correct.  This bird is on its way to bird heaven.  The bird will die.

the bird will die and is suffering. im sorry as you said you dont want to kill it but that is the best thing you can do.

This bird DOES NOT HAVE A BROKEN NECK if did it would be dead by NOW!! BIRDS that do break a neck die instantly could be its wing or leg or it could be sick  place in a box with air holes and put some where dark and quiet leave alone and call a rehabilitater for advice.

Birds have 14 neck vertebrates this why Ive said not broken to many
