Question:

Bird control for sweet corn?

Every year I have trouble finding a device to control the birds in my sweet corn. I have tried an owl,sound of preditors and the scare crow nothing work. Does anyone have Ideas that are proven to work?Crows and black birds are my biggest problem.

  1. An old trick we've used is to hang aluminum pie tins on strings and stakes - it's the noise as well as the flashing movement.

    This is another good use for all of those stupid AOL cds they keep sending in the mail.  String 'em up and use them as bird deterrents.  Reflective bird tape, balloons and wind socks or garden flags also can help.  

    Crows are actually pretty smart, and you need to alternate some of your methods.  Move the owl decoy, try a hawk decoy for a couple of days.  Switch it up, because the birds will get used to whatever you have placed out there.

    If all else fails, bird netting goes a long way.


  2. Maybe a few cats? That actually might not help. My friend has the same problem and she says she sprays the corn with something.
