my female bird zoey is alwayss in her nesting box when i go near the cage. There are 2 males and one other female in the same cage. The two boys are in love so none of the birds seem to have any interest in zoey. i have a few questions...

a) is she going to lay an unfertilized egg?

b) could she be ready to lay a fertile egg?

c) how do i get one of the boys to like zoey

d) do the birds need to be in 2 cages to have babies?

thank you so much i am just growing concerned with her bein in there all of the time and this isn't a recent issue its been going on for quite a while now.

  1. a)  No s*x ... no fertilization

    b)  Yes, if she has s*x

    c)  If the two males are more interested in each other, try separating them, and have only one male in with her, and the other male in a separate cage.

    d)  A male and a female need to be in the same cage.

  2. depending on what type of bird they are when she is ready to lay

she will start bowing to the male and making   a squeaking noise , has she done this..  if not she might just be playing in the box.... i would remove the box, until she shows signs of wanting to mate (bowing, the funny noise).

a-if she doesn't mate, she will still lay, but it will be infertile, but she may not be laying at all, might just be in the box for her own interest how old is she??

b-its only fertilized if they do the deed

c- split them.. 1 m and 1 female in each cage, and keep them out of sight of each other for a while and see what they do

d -not necessarily i know breeders that have 3-4 pairs in a large cage and they still breed well, but if you want to see if he might get interested more.. it would be worth trying.
