  1. At Petsmart, parent raised cockatiels will run you about $120-150.  Budgies/parakeets about $20-30.  (From a breeder, a handfed baby cockatiel will cost you about $65 - I currently have two for sale at that price).

I have both budgies and cockatiels and overall, I think my budgies might be noisier.  Neither one is exactly silent though.

Male cockatiels can be taught to whistle a tune and talk, hens tend to be be single note chirpers but I don't think one is more vocal then the other.

Without saying don't buy at Petsmart, you might want to look into finding a local breeder.  Many of the birds are Petsmart are not tame (I won't even mention their health) and don't make the best birds to handle.  I recently had a young man buy a hand fed baby from me after buying a bird at his local store.  He was amazed at the difference - his bird could not be handled... the new babies jumped right into his hands.

  2. 1. cokatiel, parakeets are more likely to be untame

    2. maybe like 100 around there, but that is the bird alone, you ahve to buy the cage too and food

    3. i think like 30 each

    4. i dont know

    5. they mimic moe things (whistles ect) but they have the same noise level

and i dot recomend buying a pet from petsmart :)

  3. 1. I personally have a cockatiel and I think that a cockatiel is a better bird to get if you want to hold it a lot because they love to go on peoples shoulders and be outside of the cage. Being held is probably one of its favorite things to do. The next favorite is playing with toys.

    2. Cockateils cost from $50-$200 depending on which type you get.

    3. parakeets cost about $15-$25 They are fairly cheap

    4. I think that cockatiels chirp more but they only chirp when they want attention that they are not getting. If they are getting attention then they either whistle or just keep quiet and content.

    5. Male cockatiels have a more projected voice but a bird will only scream when there is something wrong, it will try to get your attention, or if it is scared/lonely/hungry (needed change of water/food)

Good luck and hope i helped.

  4. 1.If You get a Cockatiel, they will have a tendency to bond to one person only and will sometimes attack someone that isn't their bonded one! Parakeets are flock critters and will bond to everyone if care for properly!

    2. Usually around $116

    3. Usually around $20

4.Parakeets will "chatter" alot while cockatiels tend to chirp or scream more

    5. Haven't had the proper experience to answer! :(

Hope i helped you out this is a big decision and you're smart to think it through

  5. 1. Cockatiel. Parakeets are closer to finches and they chirp and are annoying. Cockatiels are closer to cockatoos and parrots because they love to be held and played with. My cockatiel is AMAZING! I LOVE HIM TO DEATH! Many of my friends had parakeets and they were awful They bite and they're too small to be much of a playmate. However, I've also heard of amazing parakeets who love people and love to be played with. So it depends on your personality and your time frame. Cockatiels will bond with you and keep that bond, parakeets have to be constantly played with and entertained.

    2. Cockatiels vary from 50-150 dollars. I got my Cockatiel at Petland for 99.99 but he was on sale. Make sure you get a hand fed cockatiel however. They are a bit more expensive that parakeets but they are the better bird in the long run.

    3. Parakeets vary from 15-30. Buying a bird should not be about price, but about the bird itself. Parakeets cost less because although they are pretty to look at they take alot of time before they bond with people.

    4. My cockatiel sits in his cage and calls to me when I'm out of the room and he's bored. He makes pretty little sounds and occasionally sings some songs. Almost all of my friends have parakeets and they chirp and scream all the time. Their sounds are cute, but they can get a little high pitched for me.

    5. I have a male cockatiel and he doesnt seem to be more or less vocal than any other cockatiels. He makes sounds but they arent screams, they are chirps...its like his own little chatter :)

Of course I'm not going to tell you not to buy one from Petsmart. If you like the birds and they seem healthy go for it!

A few more tips: Cockatiels are very friendly birds if they are raised in an enviroment where they can be held. If you go to the store and the bird will sit on your finger and shoulder that is a great find. I looked at about 7 different stores and only one of them had holdable birds. I'm not saying that if the bird won't sit on your finger that its a bad bird, but a bird thats already social won't be as stressed out when you bring them home. If you do get a bird that is un social, you can always email me and I can help you socialize it! linloluver3022@yahoo.com for any questions!

Lastly, I have a personality quiz:

                          I like birds that are:

                                  A. Nice to look at

                                  B. Sit on my finger

I'm going to hold my bird

                                  A. Once in a while

                                   B. Every day

                          My birdcage budget is

                                   A. Less than 100 dollars

                                   B. 100 dollars +

                             My bird will be

                              A. A fun experience

                              B. A lifelong companion

If you answered mostly A's a parakeet is the right way to go

If you answered mostly B's a cockatiel is perfect!

Either way, I really do hope to hear from you about any questions you might have! I really hope this bird gives you everything you want and more! Nothing at all can compare to having a bird in your house....lots of laughs :D

    I hope this helped!

  6. Cockatiel likes to be held most

Parakeets don't squak as much as cockatiels do.

    Cockatiels cost   $70 at petsmart.

    Parakeets cost   $65 at petsmart.

    parakeets chirp more like "cheep"

    but cockatiels chirp like "squak"

Yes male cockatiels are really loud. "SQUAK!' "SQUAK!" SQUACK!"

females cockatiels chirp like "Cheep!" "Cheep!" "Cheep!"

Cockatiel females is what i recommend.
