  1. This is probably a young bird that left it's nest but wasn't old enough to really fly yet.  The bird feeding it is it's parent.

Here is a wildlife rescue link:

    http://www.wildliferescueinc.org/tips.ht...

    It says this about fleglings:

Young birds with feathers (fledglings) spend time on the ground while learning to fly. This is a normal part of their development. A fledgling should only be removed if it is in imminent danger, e.g., the baby bird is too close to a roadway or there is a free-roaming cat in the area.

I can understand how you might be worried about cats & racoons though.  The link above has a phone # and email, you might contact them for more info.

  2. Nothing, the bird you saw feeding it earlier is its mother or father.  They will take care of the baby while it's on the ground.  It will be flying on it own in a few days.

  3. Please do not ever place water directly into a birds mouth, you can cause it to aspirate and is most likely going to be fatal.  Crackers hold no nutritional value, you would be better feeding it  moistened dog food or leave dry dog food for it if it eats on its own. NEVER feed worms. How old is the bird?  If young can you place it up in a tree away from predators?  Can you call a wildlife rehabber to pick it up?  Do you know what type of bird it is?  If you can bring it in overnight to keep it safe then put it somewhere quiet and warm.  Birds do not need to be fed overnight and then you can get help in the morning.  Read my profile for links to starlingtalk and the help you need.

  4. Hm. Is the bird small? It could be a baby bird that just fell out of the nest, since its not moving an another bird is feeding it.

Give the nearest vet or animal shelter a call and they should be able to tell you what to do. If not, you could just bring it in. My bfs mom did this once with a bird that couldn't fly and the vet took care of it and released it when it was better.

Pick it up gently so you don't disturb it (in case it's hurt), use newspaper or a towel, just to be cautious of diseases.

If the bird starts attacking you or act strangely, it might be rabid, in that case leave it be. Call the Pest Control and they'll help you.

I strongly suggest calling them first because if it's a baby, and you take it from its mother who's feeding it, you will endanger it's life.

    Hope this helps =)
