Birds acting strangely?

My mother keeps a bird feeder in her backyard, and we get a lot of customers. There are sometimes 20 birds at any one time! Now many of these birds are flying around our backyard and our neighbor's as well. This just started today. They are flying in erratic patterns and not landing, as far as I can tell. Why is this?

ok something very strange happened last night in Wraxall, Bristol, England.  At 2.30 am all the birds started to sing.  It was like the dawn chorus, but far too early.  Has anyone else heard anything similar.  Was very freaky???
