Do you think they get bored doing the same thing day in day out? Being stuck in a cage all day with nothing to do until someone might come along and say hello to them.

  1. I don't feel bad for my budgie.  He has tons of toys which get switched out so he doesn't get bored with them.  And I talk to him a lot but he's afraid of hands so he's happy in there...I've let him out before, it's traumatic for him.  The space is too big compared what he's used to and he freaks out.

My cockatiel I ended up having to rehome because I didn't have enough time to let him out as much as he needed to be.  I was available for 4 hours a day (which most tiels would be very happy with)...but he wanted 12....and I couldn't let him have unsupervised play outside the cage because it's not safe (I have cats).  He's happy where he is now though, large flight cage, lots of tiels to play with and no predatory animals in the house so during the day all the birds have free run...

  2. no ****, wouldnt it suck if you were locked in your room all day

  3. birds don't belong in cages

  4. Yes, one of my old friends, used to have a bird and it was in a cage. I did feel sorry for it. It used to chirp all the time and fly around the cage, all the time. They did let it out, sometimes.. but not for long, before they put it back in the cage.. again. I do think birds belong outside or should deserve big enough room.. to fly around in. I wouldn't like to be stuck in a cage! There are special toys, you can buy, which help to keep them more happier.

  5. Keeping birds in small cages should be banned.  It is cruel.  They are meant to fly.  Maybe an aviary is ok, but not a tiny cage.

  6. I have a brid and his in a cage they may dont have to find food so its alrite but have toy and mirors in there

  7. yes, birds get VERY bored! Thats why any responsible bird owner should have at LEAST 15-20 good bird toys. That way, you can keep 5 or so in the cage at a time, and rotate them around once or twice a week. That way the bird never becomes bored because there is always something new and exciting to explore and play with.

Also, if a bird isn't going to be out of its cage and handled at LEAST one hour a day, then a second bird should be bought to keep it company

EDIT: Not all cages are cruel. My conure is in a HUGE HUGE HUGE cage! That has plenty of room for her to move around in and toys for her to play with and perches for her to climb on. Her cage door is open 80% of the time but she only choses to come out 40-50% of the time. She loves her cage and likes to be in it. It is her home and her safe zone

(Kiwi, our white eyed conure. The cage in the picture is not her actual cage. We just used it to transport her with. her actual cage is much bigger and cleaner)

  8. My birds love their cages I have tons of toys in there and they only have to stay in there cages while I'm at work which is 5 hours a day then at night, and even when it's open they go in and out of it all evening.

  9. Depends on the bird.  Some smaller birds don't have the intellect to be "bored".  A parrot, on the other hand, has complex emotions, and certainly will become bored unless his owner offers some diversions.

But you suffer from a common misunderstanding.  Domestic birds to not see their cage as a prison, they see it as "home".  That's where they eat and sleep. That's where they want to be.  Even my birds who have the run of the house, with their cage door open all day, repeatedly go back to their cage on their own.

(Of course, a wild bird would hate being put into a cage.)

One more thing.  Larger birds like a parrot will enjoy interaction with humans.  Smaller birds don't care if you stop by to say hi or not.

  10. If people have wild birds in cage like you portray, then yes it is cruel....but most people have birds that have never flown in the wild, so the bird excepts that "this is it's life", with food and water available when it likes.

What is cruel is when pets are released into the wild and don't have a hope of surviving because they are used too being looked after!!

My Rainbow Lorikeek is free to do as she likes, her cage is never locked and she sits on my shoulder when I go out shopping..etc, therefore free too fly off any time she likes but she doesn't because she knows that she gets fed and loved staying with me!!!

If she was wild then I would lose her in a flash, but she doesn't know any different so she stays where she is safe and secure!!

People who keep their bird locked up all the time are somewhat cruel, but pet birds aren't wild birds and would not survive any other way!!

I'll give you a star for your concern ^_^

  11. Well, it's prison without having ever committed a crime. poor things...

  12. Birds have to be taken out to play with constantly.  It is ggod that they have a LARGE cage where they feel safe but we should always think of it as the birds room, they should have plenty of stuff like we do in ours and they are not meant to be there 24/7!

  13. i was in a cage for 3 month and it drives you crazy!!!!

  14. i feel sad for them, because some birds don't have the space to fly.

  15. honestly, i hate birds.

they scared the living day lights out of me.

    i know weird.

i keep thinking they`ll peak my eyes out lol.

but honestly i don`t care if they do or don`t.
