(1) Please tell as much as you know about Birmingham.

(2) I am thinking of studying in Birimingham, but i heard some bad comment about it. My British friend said it is a bad place and ask me to choose a nicer and safer place to study.

I am frustrated. She did not further explain how bad it is.

Is it really bad? Could anyone tell me the bad points of this place?

(3) Could anyone tell me the good points of this place? I am sure there might be some.

(4) I am a Chinese, however, I want to choose a place with less Asians living, since i want to improve my english by speaking with more British locals. Is Birimingham has a large chinese population?

(5) Someone who lives in Cornwall said Birmingham is not a best place for winter. Is Birmingham very cold when comparing to other UK cities?

(6) Is it a safe place to live?

(7) i know it is convenient for travelling to other cities. Is it correct?

(8) Is this place too many Asian emigrants (if yes, what are the nationalities of them) and too little British locals?

  1. If your looking for a city try Cambridge or Oxford although they have a large Asian population because of the univercities. But theyre beautiful places. If you want a historic town try Stratford Upon Avon or Warwick both lovely and pretty. Warwick also has a castle. Huge castle.

    :-)

  2. stop calling us british! we are ENGLISH!

  3. (1) well, considering i have lived in birmingham all my life i will have a go! birmingham is a lovely city, theres a lot to do here during the day and a lot to do here during the night also. the city centre has also gone under a lot of regeneration during recent years, and so the image of birmingham has changed a lot recently, for the better!

    (2) birmingham is as safe as any other city in the UK. obviously, as a city there are bad parts and good parts, but for a city we are safe, and personally i have never been robbed or anything of the sort whilst in the city, and i have rarely seen much bad going on to be honest. it is a not a bad place to be at all. and also, according to the crime and policing averages given per 1000 people for 2006/2007, birmingham is a lot safer than manchester.

also, if youre talking about university studying, birmingham university is an extremely good university, and so is aston university. birmingham city university is not as good as the other two, but is still good for a variety of different courses.

    (3) there are plenty good things about living here! we have good transport links. we also have the relatively new bullring shopping centre for lots of new shops, the mailbox for designer shops, more canals than venice which have also been regenerated and are now lovely also. we have new cafes, good restuarants, nice places to live, lots of museums and festivals and outdoor activities.

    (4) yes, we do have a few chinese people living here, however whether you came into contact with them or not depends on where you would live in birmingham, its a large city after all! we do have a small chinese quarter in the city centre with a couple of chinese restuarants and supermarkets. 1.1% of the birmingham population is chinese, which really isnt many at all. to be honest, if you didnt want to be in contact with any chinese people to improve your english, you would be! around 68% of the population in birmingham is british white nationals, so there are plenty to talk to!

    (5) rubbish! birmingham is ever so slightly colder than down in portsmouth, but we're a lot warmer than cities such as newcastle. there is nothing bad about birmingham winters at all!

    (6) like i said before! yes, for a city this is a perfectly safe place to live. we have a lower crime average than some cities like manchester, but then higher crimes rates than smaller cities. this would be the same in any country anywhere however! its fine to live here.

    (7) extremely. we have new street station, you can catch trains to many many cities such as london, bristol, portsmouth, southampton, edinburgh, manchester, cardiff, newcastle, liverpool, leeds etc. we also have a coach station for coaches to places, the airport, and other train stations.

    (8) again, we have a population of around 20% asian/asian british. i couldnt tell you what their nationality is.

    hope this helps!
