Birmingham City's on-loan striker Obafemi Martins out for the season: EPL news
Rubin Kazan striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Obafemi-Martins-c28273, currently on loan to English Premier League side Birmingham City, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his leg. The 26-year-old had been struggling with a stress fracture in his leg
and despite making an impact for City earlier on in the season; the Nigerian will be unable to feature for them for the remainder of the season.
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish confirmed the 26-year-old striker would not be able to participate in the team's remaining games this season. The former Newcastle United forward was crucial for the Blues, having scored the winner in the Carling Cup
final against fellow Premier League side Arsenal earlier on in the season.
While talking to reporters, McLeish said, “Oba has had surgery and it's a blow for him and a blow for us and we wish him a speedy recovery."
He added, "He passed his medical and everything was fine for six weeks but then it became obvious something was not quite right. The problem has crept up on him during the past month or so and a stress fracture was diagnosed.”
Even though Martins arrived at St. Andrews on a short term loan move, McLeish had the option of making the move permanent for a small fee of £4 million. However, the City boss has refused to comment on the Nigerian’s future at the club, claiming that he
wanted to wait until the end of the season to discuss any transfer deals.
Martins arrived at Birmingham City in the 2011 January transfer window and made an instant impact for the club. While he has not managed to find the back of the net in the English Premier League, he has scored crucial goals in both the FA Cup and Carling
Cup competitions. The forward has gone on to make four appearances in the Premier League since joining the Blues in the winter transfer window.
