Birmingham City and Blackpool relegated from English Premier League – EPL news
Birmingham City and Blackpool are the two clubs that will join West Ham United in the npower Championship next season. Both teams were relegated from English Premier League on the final day of the 2010/11 campaign.
The last round of Premier League fixtures took place on Sunday, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/May-22-c39884, a day which the media had dubbed ‘Survival Sunday’. Five teams went into the final games of their domestic campaign, unsure of whether or not they would still retain their Premier League
status at the end of the day.
Over the course of 90 minutes, the bottom half of the Premier League table changed more often than a slot machine. However, when the dust settled, Birmingham City and Blackpool were the two unlucky teams that were relegated from the top flight. Both clubs
failed to get a result from their final match of the campaign.
Birmingham went down 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Pavlyuchenko-c31639 scored either side of Craig Gardener’s 79th minute effort to leave the Blues facing the prospect of Championship football next season.
Speaking after the defeat, Birmingham manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Mcleish said, “I'm obviously pretty gutted. The way it's happened to us is devastating, losing the battle to avoid relegation. When we got the equaliser (against Spurs) I thought things would go for us -
but lady luck has avoided us today."
Meanwhile, Ian Holloway’s Blackpool were defeated 4-2 by Manchester United at Old Trafford. Though Blackpool fought bravely against the 2010/11 English Champions at their home turf, some woeful defending ultimately cost them their place in the Premier League.
Holloway was visibly upset after his side’s defeat to Manchester United, however, he insisted that he is still proud of his players for the way they have conducted themselves this season.
Holloway said, “This is a special group down here and we're very disappointed right now. We had started to believe we can do this. You saw the way we played, the chances we created, we've got to take those. That aside, we've been absolutely outstanding and
it's hard to take.”
