Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish insists Nikola Zigic is close to return- EPL news
Birmingham City manager, Alex McLeish, has claimed striker Nikola Zigic is close to making a return after being out with a groin injury. He stated that the forward could make a comeback to the squad after being out for almost two months.
Zigic has been troubled with injuries in the latter half of the season and has not started a game for Birmingham since the Carling Cup final in February which the Blues won 2-1. The Serbian made a six million-pound move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 last summer and has
been unable to make an impact because of his constant injury woes.
McLeish admitted that the striker has had a troubled maiden season with the Birmingham-based club. He stated that the medical team have done their best to ensure the problem is solved but the club do not want to take any further risks and will see specialists
to get to the root of the injury.
“It has been a bit of a nightmare with Zigic. The medical team have done what they could but he keeps kind of breaking down and it is too painful for him to continue. We have seen specialists. We feel he is close to playing. We can't get anything out of
a player who is showing he is restricted when he is making his movements,” he was quoted as saying.
The manager claimed that the striker is close to a return and could have a major part to play in the club’s survival in the Premier League.
“Zigic needs to be able to move freely. He needs to be able to jump to get the best from him. But we are trying one or two other things the next couple of days to see if we can get him to participate in at least one or two of the games. It is different levels
of treatment,” he concluded.
Nikola Zigic has played 34 times for Birmingham this season, most of them being substitute appearances. The Serbian has found the net eight times including the club’s opening goal in the Carling Cup final.
