Birmingham City threaten legal action against Aston Villa over Mcleish row – EPL news
Birmingham City have revealed that they are considering legal action against Aston Villa for allegedly trying to ‘tap up’ their want-away manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Mcleish. The Scot recently decided to end his three-and-a-half year association with the Blues, allowing
Villa to try and secure him as the manager at Villa Park.
Following Birmingham’s relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League campaign, the club management had announced its continued support for head-coach, Alex Mcleish. However, according to the League Managers’ Association,
the Scot has decided to hand in his resignation based on his limited say on player transfers, as well as the sacking of his head talent scout.
Soon after Mcleish’s resignation letter came to light, Birmingham’s fierce rivals, Aston Villa, revealed that they were planning to interview Alex Mcleish for the position of head-coach at Villa Park. The news has not gone down well with the Blues. Acting
chairman of Birmingham City, Peter Pannu, has called the move an “an attack against the intelligence and integrity” of the supporters of both Aston Villa and the Blues.
The club has not yet accepted Alex Mcleish’s resignation, and Pannu has threatened legal action against Aston Villa for trying to lure Mcleish away from St. Andrews. A statement on the club’s official website read, “Birmingham City football club finds Aston
Villa's announcement today (Tuesday) to proceed with an interview with Alex McLeish a contempt of Premier League and FA rules. The club feel this will taint football and give the game and the footballing authorities
a bad name if this is allowed to materialise. The club will do what is within its powers to prevent this and will lodge a formal complaint to the authorities tomorrow as there is now not the slightest doubt remaining about this tap up attempt.”
They went on to add, “"The matter is now with Birmingham City FC's lawyers and no further comments will be made."
For now, the exact circumstances surrounding Alex Mcleish’s departure from Birmingham City are not yet known. The club has vehemently denied the LMA’s (League Managers’ Association’s) reports on the matter, however, the situation will become clearer in the
coming days.
