Birmingham boss Alex McLeish unhappy at supporters’ boos problem
Alex McLeish felt that Birmingham City supporters were wrong to boo his side during yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Everton, Blues’ first home loss for a year.
City fans jeered their team off the pitch at both half time and full time, as Everton earned their first league victory of the season courtesy of a Roger Johnson own goal and a late Tim Cahill header.
“I don’t think we deserved that,” said a disappointed McLeish.
“We need the home support behind us. I’ve said for a couple of years now how important they are to us.
“We are trying to find a blend up front. Don’t forget there were about six injuries, and a suspension with Craig Gardner out.
“James McFadden’s out, Jean Beausejour out, Lee Bowyer was injected at the beginning of the week. Others have niggles and we’re trying to get the new guys settled.
“Maybe once we get these guys fully fit we will be much more potent.”
Everton became the first visiting side to win at St. Andrews’ since Bolton escaped with the points a year ago, and McLeish has now challenged his players to embark on another unbeaten run.
“It’s a credit to everybody going so long unbeaten at home, and now we’ve got to start again,” he said.
“Most of the teams who have stayed up over the years have made sure their home form is the reason why.”
