Birmingham close to N'Zogbia deal
Birmingham City are close to signing Charles N'Zogbia from Wigan Athletic after submitting an improved bid for the French winger.
Birmingham had an offer rejected towards the end of last season as Wigan are thought to be holding out for a figure of around £10 million. Wigan have started the season badly and many will say they can't afford to lose one of their best players.
Birmingham manager Alex McLeish said: "We've made another bid for Charles and we wait to see if it's successful or not. We've had no response but we're hopeful that the player will come. If there's other clubs in for him then we'll have to wait and see."
If the two clubs can sort out a deal before the summer transfer window ends then Birmingham will have a player who can add an extra dimension to the current side. Wigan may be forced to budge on their price tag.
N'Zogbia quality
N'Zogbia has just broken in to the French national side and will be full of confidence. He obviously has a lot of ambition and Wigan's bad start to the season could cause him to try and push any deal through quickly.
The Frenchman has plenty of pace and can play on either side of the pitch. He would become one of the more creative players in the Birmingham team and this is important because it means he can create more goal scoring opportunities for the side.
He is a superb passer of a football and this means Birmingham could use him to link up various parts of the side. He can get down the side and cross the ball into the box or he can play through balls for a striker to run for. Birmingham do not have too many players who always look comfortable when in possession of the ball.
McLeish added: "But we've tried and we've tried our best. The directors and the board have worked hard to make these kind of things happen. That's going to be the hardest part, the deadline's coming, Tuesday's the deadline day so it'll be a mad scramble."
Betting advice
N'Zogbia would be a very good signing for Birmingham. He looks at the right stage to make the next big move in his career and will be a candidate to score goals for Birmingham if the two parties can work out a deal.
