Hi at all!

I’ll come to England to find a job as a professional. I’m thinking to come to Birmingham to look for a job there and to use it as a basis (for his central position) to move in the rest of the country to attend for some job interview.

During this period (3-4 weeks), do you think is it easy to find a temporary job (such as in a restaurant, bar, lefletting, etc.) to pay my expenses? Other than checking gumtree, is there some specific area plenty of restaurants, etc.?

And is it easy to find a weekly accommodation, for example a bed in an apartment (instead of an hostel)? Which are good area for position (easy to move in the city) and affordable price?

Thank you for your help and advices.

  1. Are you from within the EU? If not, you will need a working visa if you want to work within the UK.

From my experience, if you are looking for casual work such as bar work, you need to be in the right place at the right time. There are a lot of pubs and restaurants in Birmingham city centre, but it will depend on when you apply as to how likely you are to find a job. Bear in mind that there are four universities in Birmingham, and so if you are looking post late September, you are likely to be swamped by students with the same idea.

Birmingham is not too expensive, and the pay is at least minimum wage. It's not that well situated for country wide jobs, and any interview (outside of Brum) will require a train or bus journey.
