  1. If you are a minor, your parents do have the legal authority to not give it to you.  And yes, there are reasons.  At the time you are 18, they should give it to you.. or you might have to order a copy.  As mentioned, you WILL have to give enough information so they are satisfied that you are not trying to commit id theft.  If there is info on there that they might be concealing (example, different name of father), that can be a real issue.

No state provides records like this, for free, OR online.

  2. Most, if not all, birth certificates are on record in your state's department of vital records, and/or Department of Human Services. Call your county courthouse for information.

We can obtain a Certified Birth Certificate for you, in most cases, in 2-3 days. The certificates we obtain have raised, embossed seals or the equivalent.

Follow the instructions below if you only require a certified birth certificate:

Click on the link above. Fill out the order form from your browser window and print a copy. Please remember to sign the form. Make a copy of your drivers license or state issued identification card, if available (for minor children please make a copy of the parents drivers license or state issued identification card) and fax both to us at 713-629-0396

  3. couldnt you ask your parents?

  4. You shouldn't have to know the hospital.  Here, we just need to go to the clerk of courts office and ask.  You'd need proof that you're the person on the birth certificate (driver's license, etc), and they'll give you a copy. There's a small fee for doing this, but I think its under $10.  I'd find out where the clerk of courts is in your city, call them and ask what you need to do.

  5. As petty as it seems, you will probably have to pay a fee to order a copy of your birth certificate. Most people pay a charge for this, but are you sure your parents don't hold a copy? If not, you shoudl be able to request a copy from the registration authority. I'm English, so UK results won't help, but basically, go to where you would log a birth, marriage or death. The registrar should be able to help you.
