Question:

Birth Control: Wanting to get off Depo Provera?

I have been on depo provera for 6months. I went on it because my dad has had 3-4 blood clots in his legs so the doctor suggested I do the shot. But I do not like it at all. The one side effect I get that I cannot stand is that my period will last sometimes 3-4 weeks long! I really want to try the pill. Has anyone gone on the pill even though blood clots have shown up in family? I really do not want to take the shot again.

  1. Oh no,listen to the second answerer...blood clots in legs and lungs are the primary things you have to watch for while using pills, and if it runs in your family then don't even risk yourself,I think you should try something else,I agree that depo is very bothersome.

Ask your doctor which would be the best alternative to the shot,if you have had kids you should try the Paraguard IUD.

    Good Luck.

  2. my dad has blood clots and he has flubbitis really bad in his legs...and im still on the pill, im on tri cycline and it works ok for me! good luck

  3. Blood clots run in my family too.  My sister took the birth control pill and got  a clot.  Almost lost her leg then almost 4 years later died in her sleep.
