Question:

Birth Control- Will it effect a pregnancy test?

Specifically, is it possible for the birth control to present a false negative or positive? Is it possible if the drug is still in a person's system, for the drug to have any effect? Could the extra hormones create a false positive? Could they create a false negative?

Is it true that birth control "makes your body think you are pregnant?"

  1. Birth control cannot cause a false negative on an HPT. The test is looking for HCG, which is only present when a woman is actually pregnant.

But it is true that birth control does trick your body into thinking you are pregnant, it just doesn't use HCG to do it.

  2. The hormones in birth control are artificial hormones. They do not effect the results of the pregnancy test, because the test detects a different kind of hormone.. yes some bc may trick your body into thinking that your pregnant such as (depo shot injections) however it can not trick a pregnancy test...
