I have my 6 week check up tomorrow and obviously, with a new baby I DO NOT want to get pregnany again any time soon. I breastfeed and I was wondering, what, in your opinion is the best birth control?? Please list pros and cons. Thanks.

  1. There are only a few birth controls you can get on while nursing. Ask your Dr and she will put you on a safe one. Those two listed before I know are not on the list. I have a 6mo. old nursing. And took BC with my 3year for 10mo.

  2. I believe that the Depo Provera shot is the best birth control. I was on it for 3 years before I got pregnant and loved the fact that I didn't have a period and I didn't have to remember to take a pill everyday, just went to the Dr's office every 3 months and they gave me a shot in the hip.

Pros- No period, can still breastfeed, no hassle of remembering to take a pill.

Cons- Some people gain weight on the shot, you can go through some mood swings, its a shot, so can be uneasy if you don't like needles.

**The shot is a Progesterone Injection, which is best for breastfeeding because studies have shown no ill effects of Progesterone-only methods on lactation and some studies have suggested there may even be a slight increase in milk volume.

    Progesterone-Only methods include:

Progesterone only pills (POPs or minipills): Those are best if waited 6 weeks after delievery since there is a theoretical (unproven) risk that POPs may pose a problem to your babies underdeveloped kidneys & liver.

Projesterone Injection: This method is a liquid form of progesterone and is very effective in preventing pregnancy for 12 weeks. Some medical treatment facilities will give this injection prior to discharge from the hospital.

  3. i think the iud---it's not chemically involved so optimal choice for breastfeeding, and also, you can take it out at any time by an ob if you want 2 get pregnant again right after taking it out. its not like birth control pills or depo-provera where your body has to return 2 normal 2 get pregnant again.

  4. I just got the Mirena IDU on monday. so I really cant tell you a lot about it but my doctor recommended it to me because im not really good at taking pills and i didnt have to get a shot every 3 months. It last for 5 years and you can have it easily removed. Plus my doctor said if I want to have another baby before the 5 years it's not hard to get pregnant like it is when you have the pill or shot. Now the cons, you do experience some cramping, i haven't cramped since the day I got it, and you may experience spotting for a month. I havent spotted for only two days. But remember I just got Monday so im not am expert at it. Oh yeah and another pro is that your period will stop after a while!

  5. i was on tri cyclin... and i dont recommend it.. i was bleeding and sick foever i just stopped taking it.. then i tried the ortho evra patch.. wich i just dident liek it was awkward and annoying and i seem after i took on a commercial that it was recalled because people were getting realy sick... and now i am on yasmin(my baby is 3 months old) iv only been on it for liek a month.. but so far it seems alright.. its supposed to control acne.. i dont have it... but im  hopeing it will stop those random pimples!!! lol
