Birth Control question. Should you take it even if you forget all the time?

I am not having s*x and won't for a long time. But I was taking birth control for headaches and periods (i'm 17) I forgot all the time to take it and then I would have breakthrough periods ( come in between regular periods at any time). So if I were taking birth control and having s*x, would it help at all even though I didn't take it everyday if I was using condoms? Or not be any better solution. Really what i'm trying to say is will I have a greater risk at getting pregnant if I don't take it right then not taking it at all. I'm just asking cause i'm into medical stuff and I am kinda curious.

  1. taking the pill here and there is the same as not taking the pill at all. for the pill to work it needs to be taken same time every day as directed!

if you keep forgetting you may need something else.

even if your not having s*x it will still mess up your body (as it already sounds like its doing with your irregular period).

I have the Implenon shunt in my arm - its the best form of contraception you can get!! I dont have to worry about anything for 3 years.

Or if you dont like the idea of that, there is always the Depot needle you get every 3 months.

But remember everyone is different and their are side-effects to contraception (e.g. weight gain, mood swings, irregular period, no period at all).

  2. You should take it as prescribed...once every 24 hours. If you miss taking the pill you should take it as soon as you remember and then take your regular dosage at your normal time. You will have a larger chance of experiencing headaches, stomach aches or spotting due to the influx of hormones but you should not stop taking them just because you forgot. If it is too difficult for you to remember taking a bc pill once daily then try taking it when you do something daily such as when you bathe or  when you eat breakfast or just before bed (if you do one or more of these activities at the same time each day). If your schedule is too sporadic and you don't think you will be able to remember, then talk to your doctor and perhaps he can prescribe a shot or a patch instead.

If you miss a dosage then yes you do have more of a chance of getting pregnant should you end up having s*x. Condoms are not 100% effective so you must remember to always take your pill if you do not want to become pregnant. There has been some accounts of women who have become pregnant on the pill...it is possible but normally does not happen.

If any questions about your prescription, I suggest you talk to your doctor.

  3. i heard that if you take it everyday for a month then it should be working but i'm not sure if you should still be doing it everyday. if you skip a lot then it probably is like not taking them at all. the odds of you being pregnant should come out even.

  4. messing with hormones is no good but if you have missed even one pill i would use back up if you are using back up you could quit taking the pill and  not change your  odds of getting pregnant  but i wouldnt mess with the hormone pills

  5. nope with the pill you absolutely have to take it every day and at the same time or it won't help you at all.  you should try the patch.

  6. "Like if I were taking BC pills and skipped a lot, would I have a bigger risk of getting pregnant then not taking them at all?"

No.  Taking birth control erratically leaves you at risk for pregnancy, but it's still a lesser risk than if you were using nothing.  However, if you need pregnancy protection and can't remember a daily pill, you should consider switching to a method that doesn't require taking a pill every day, such as the patch, nuvaring, depo-provera, or IUD.

  7. I am the same way when it comes to taking pills. My doctor told me to tape them to the bathroom mirror, and you know what? It worked. You use the mirror every morning, you see the pills and you take them.

It is important to take them all the time, or do not take them at all. Good luck.
