Birth Control without parents knowing?

I'm 17 and I've been with my boyfriend for awhile. I'm close with my parents and everything but I find it awkward to talk to them about my s*x life. I have a job but probably could not afford to get on it. I know that our insurance covers our doctors visits and all that, but would it cover birth control? And can i get it without my parents knowing?

Please don't preach to me about waiting until marriage. Thanks!!

  1. you can get it free at the gp's :)

  2. Yes you can get it without your parents knowing but I'm not sure about it covering payment for birth control. I've been on it for a year and a bit without my parents knowing but because I'm in full time education I don't have to pay for it.

  3. Your insurance would probably not cover birth control. You can try over the counter stuff or just go with condoms. If you decide to go with condoms, there is a special kind that kills sperm when it touches the plastic. It is the safest one. Its called spermrecidal or something like that. Good luck!

  4. you'r boyfriend could pitch in and pay for some of it toom if the incurance doesn't cover it.

  5. Even if you are cool or not cool with your parents, my best advice, tell them whats going on... get their help, now when your not sick from an STD or another thing a live Baby... You can then have an open relationship with your boyfriend, it will be better in the long run, you are almost 18 anyway, I think your parents will be glad you asked...

make a choice to be an adult dont be ashamed to talk to your folks

  6. well, you can get birth control over the counter, but you can ask your boyfriend to get condoms too! and birth control wont cover insurance so you should be fine!

  7. go to planned parenthood b/c if u go to ur doc it will show on insurance

  8. buy some condoms

and yes you can get it for free and no the doctor is not allowed to tell your parents

  9. You are old enough and obviously you are trying to be responsible. You don't to tell your parents if you don't feel comfortable with it but just make sure that you are safe.

Go to planned parenthood, they will explain the different types of birth control that might work for you and the best part is it only costs about $8 a month. They give it to you right there so it is easier than going to CVS or something for a prescription. They won't call you house or anything so don't worry about giving them your info. They are completely confiential. And they will give you and your boyfriend a free std test too which will help to make you not worry. Good Luck

  10. If you see a gynecologist he/she can give you bc and your parents can not know.. your gyn visits even with a minor are confidential unless parents are given consent.

  11. Just go to your local health department, they wont tell your parents if you don't want them to, and if you qualify it could be completely free, I know its free due to my income.

    :]

  12. You can't use your parents' insurance without your parents knowing that you've used their insurance. The insurance company sends a statement to the policyholder (one of your parents) every time a claim is filed, with the name & location of the service provider and the dollar amount the insurance company was billed.

As for the other half of your question, some insurance policies cover prescription drugs, and some do not. There would still be a co-pay for those policies that do cover drugs. Of those that do, some cover contraceptives, and some do not. There's no way to know in advance without calling the company or checking the benefits manual.

  13. planned parenthood?? my friends doctor gives them to her for free. she keeps giving her samples.

  14. Condoms are not expensive, and your boyfriend can/should help cover the cost.

If you want pills, try Planned Parenthood.  They charge on a sliding scale.
