Birth Registration/Certificate? The same thing?

Is a 'Birth Registration Certificate' the same as a 'Birth Certificate' in Indiana? We are trying to get my husband a driver's license in MO and a birth registration certificate is all he has. The DMV won't let him get a license because they said he needs his birth certificate, but his parents say the birth registration is all they have.

  1. the birth registration certificate issued at the hospital in indiana is different from the birth certificate issued by the state of indiana. So I am not sure exactly what you have, check if the Certificate you have has a Seal of the State of Indiana and a signature.

  2. If your state (Missouri) needs some other kind of identification in place of the birth certificate (like license from another state) provide that as proof of date of birth. Along with the birth registration certificate this should be acceptable. If not how practical would it be for you to either online or physically go to his birth state and get some form of identification with his date of birth on it. My son was born in Massachusetts and they do not issue birth certificates, they issue a birth registration card. I had an identification card made in Massachusetts and used it every time someone wanted proof of his birth. This was of course prior to 9/11 so things have changed but I did get an ID card to use to have another son travel with using the birth registration card just three years ago. He then used the card to get his license in our current state. If you are military your military ID is a valid form that can be used to prove your date of birth. Another thought try contacting his birth state and asking if there is another form you can fill out to receive a "birth certificate". Hope this helps you out.
