Anyway, do I start it on the Sunday? or can I start the pills anyday cause I dont have my period? Today is tuesday and I would like to have you know what soon... How long should I wait to have s*x after being on the pill - on the box it only says "wait 48 hrs if you missd a pill and remeber to take one" does that goes for starting it? if I decide to take it today - I take it on tuesday and follow my days? anyway thanks for your answers..p.s my baby is 7 weeks today - so does that mean I ovulated and I should take it now?

  1. you should always use a back up method of birth control for the first month of starting the pill. You can start taking them whenever you want to.

  2. As long as you havent had intercourse, you can start them anytime. If you have already seen your Dr. for your 6 wk Post Partum visit, I would go ahead and start them on Sunday. Of course you need to use back-up birth control for the first week, or anytime you miss a pill or on antibiotics. And when you stop breastfeeding you need to call them back to get a different BCP. The one they are having you take now is different since you are breastfeeding. As far as your period, you may not have one while you are breastfeeding. That is not uncommon. Hope this helps, congrats on your new bundle of joy! :)

  3. My doctor gave me the pill a few weeks ago. It was a Thursday. He said I could start that day. But I waited until Sunday to start. I have been on it for 1 week now.

I am also nursing my new baby. She is 7 weeks old.

  4. When you are breastfeeding you may not have a period for a year. You never know. Just start the pills today.

  5. Start taking it right away.  You may not get your period for a long time if you're breastfeeding.  After my first daughter was born I didn't get a period for two years.   Be sure to take it at the same time everyday.  I got pregnant again because I wasn't careful about taking the mini pill the same time everyday.

  6. The reason for the Sunday start is that then most women will have their periods on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and not interfere with the "weekend".

If you start the pill on the first day of your period, it's likely -- so long as you take every pill in that cycle during and after that week perfectly -- that you will be have the full effectiveness of the pill immediately to seven days later. Pill manufacturers vary on what they state and suggest when it comes to a Day 1 start and effectiveness.

If you Sunday Start -- you start taking the pill on the first Sunday after your period begins -- it's likely you will have the full effectiveness of the pill, so long as you take every pill in that cycle during and after that week perfectly, after seven days of use.

If you start at any other time in your cycle, then you should wait one full cycle of active pills before going without a backup. Because starting the pill at other times means that your normal fertility cycle may keep up as it would without the pill -- for instance, you may ovulate or already have ovulated when you start, or your cervical mucus may not be changed enough to impact sperm motility -- relying on the pill as sole birth control until your first pack is through isn't sound.

Understand, though, that opinions and statements on all of this vary. Some manufacturers and healthcare providers will say that the pill should be effective within seven days no matter when you start, while others will list a range from day one to a whole first pill pack.

  7. If you want your period to fall in the middle of the week and not have it on the weekend when you do start your cycle again after breastfeeding, then I woudl start taking them on Sunday. If you do not care when your period falls, then you can start taking them today. Best of luck to you.
