Birth control and smoking!!!!?

Okay so my best friend just went on birth control. After I got prego she didnt want the same. so she went to the geno and got the pill she told them she dont smoke but she does so she dont get in trouble with her mom. Could that mess up the birth control. ?? And on the birth control it says. Dont smoke with this meds. Should she be worried?

it won't change how effective the birth control works but it can make side effects more likely like blood clots and high blood pressure.  it does make taking birth control more dangerous but if she won't quit, she just needs to make sure she has yearly exams and she NEEDS to tell the dr that she smokes the next time she goes. what is said between a dr and patient is confidential so they can't tell her mom. and if for some reason her mom had been going into her appointments with her, she should just tell her mom she'd feel more comfortable by herself. i'm sure she'd understand...after all that is a pretty personal exam!

ps. am i the only one that thinks it's a little weird that she can tell her mom she's having s*x and needs to be on birth control but not that she smokes?
