  1. Anyone on accutane has to be either birth control or tested for pregnancy. well if you're a girl anyway.  Accutane is so potent that say you did get pregnant, you would have a deformed child just from the accutane alone.

Why don't you try taking birth control instead of accutane?  your acne could very well be hormonal at your age and birth control would help acne control too.  Just try it for at least 3 to 4 months and if it's not making a difference go with accutane.  Accutane shouldn't be the first option.  It's got very bad side effects such as thinning of hair and exessive dehydration.  Plus it can be costly.  Have your doctor talk to you about your other options.

  2. I too was on a medication and not sexually active at the time and I still had to get pregnancy tests done.  My parents totally did not believe that I was on birth control for the medication only!  :)  But it did help with my periods and grumpiness, so it was worth it to me.

Accuntane is a very very strong drug and the doctor is probably just taking extra precautions.  And let me tell you, as sad as it is, children are having s*x and lying about it.  Working with HeadStart, I had a mom who had her baby at 12.   The doctor is probably just trying to be extra careful.  I would say go for it and just be cautious of any side effects of the accutane.  GOOD LUCK!

  3. i am right where you are. i'm almost 14 i've been on the pill for like a bit over a year. (not for sexual reasons, acne) and it's helped. i'm starting accutane in about a month.. you have to either be on two birth control pills or 1 and abstaining from s*x. i think you should do it. i took my blood test like a week ago.. and it didn't hurt. i tested negative.. and actually found out my cholesterol is dangerously high.. anyways. i think you should, cause after month 3 people's skin starts looking really gorgeous and glowing. it will look worse before it gets better though, cause all ur acne from under the skin is going to come up. so just put on a bit of makeup.  and u will get chapped lips. it's just part of the deal. don't go out in the sun. and ur doctor will tell u the rest.
