  1. I agree with Freckle Face. The sooner you find out the better. IF the child is wanted by the natural mother then giving the child back will be one of the hardest things you'll ever do. Just know that you are doing what's best for the child.

    Take care

  2. Independant,

My heart truly goes out to you.  I personally couldn't live with myself if i didn't find out the truth.  I can't imagine the pain of a mother tricked out of her child.  Your child will grow up and ask these same questions.  I can't imagine the pain you might feel too.  The truth usually comes out in the end.  The sooner you find out the truth the better for all involved.

    Best wishes.

  3. That is such a tough one.  The right thing to do isn't always the easiest because there is a chance that it could turn out painful for you.  Put yourself in the other person's position...what would you want someone to do?  How are you going to feel if you don't...will it bother you forever? I can't imagine being in your shoes and I pray for the best for you and your child.

  4. With my first adoption, I adopted a toddler internationally. I did a lot of research ahead of time and was sure everything was ok.  But then I heard that there was some corruption in that country.

I had already started searching for my son's mother. I was lucky, because my agency was a good one and investigated by themselves before refering a child to a family. I had good information to go on, but I chose to  work with an independent searcher - nothing to do with my adoption agency or adoption at all.

I could not have raised my son in uncertainty. I kept thinking that I'd have to answer to him one day for my actions. And then how could I sleep at night thinking about his mother who didn't know where he was or if he was ok (he was & is very sick)?

During that time, I went so far as to contact the State Department and a lawyer.  I needed to know what I would have to do legally to give our son back. It's not easy. If I brought my son back to his home country & tried to leave him there, I could've been arrested for child abandonment.  I was looking at having to go through court in both the US and his country to terminate my rights and reinstate his mother's.

Thankfully, when we found our son's mother she explained what the situation was (nothing to do with either poverty or his illness. It had to do with his father) and gave us her blessing. We've been in touch for years now and have been able to assist her financially besides exchanging pictures and letters with her.

  5. You deffinitely need to see if you can find your childs birthfamily. What were they told about the "true nature"? Some people are told that their child is going to be raised in another country and educated there but will be returning to them when grown. If that is the case here an open adoption may work fine for you. Concider yourself (and child) lucky to be in contact with the childs family through an international adoption. Usually it is near immpossible and the abandoned child is forever left wondering.

  6. chance it..and u might lose that child...its a ify

  7. You are incorrect to say 'most'.  You are likely correct to say 'some'.  My friends who adopted from Guatamala some years ago (kids are going to be in high school), actually had a DNA sample of the woman presented to them as the mother of the twin babies and confirmed, that this woman was indeed the mother of the babies.  Clearly this issue has existed for some time.

BTW, they have remained in contact with the children's mother and aunt all these years. Mother passed away 5 years ago from an illness.
