Birthday Cut-Off Date for Private & Public Kindergartens?

I'm worry because my son'll be 4 on October 27 and I want him to strat kindergarten. but I know that public schools have cut-off date on september. I don't know about privates I don't want my son to be one year behind what can I do?

Sorry but,public schools are pretty firm about the cut off date and catholic schools are the same.My niece went to a Lutheran school and they let her go to kindergarten at age 4 her birthday was in november.

The cut off dates are there for a reason. I'm not sure why you would want him to start so soon, but waiting a year will not harm him in any way. It acutally could help. While you may feel that academically he's ready for kindergarten, socially he may need some more time (or vice versa). Look into pre-k programs in your area. Sometimes local school districts or churches offer a pre-k program, as well as local preschools and childcare centers. In a pre-k program  your son can continue to develop academic skills while building upon his social skills. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being the older kid in the class, especially as a male. It may actually help him down the road.

Consider your options carefully. If you decide that you want to persue an early start to kindergarten, please take the time to do your research. Talk to the kindergarten teacher and the school councelor.

let him be a boy! he will be too young to keep up with all the rigors of today's Kindergarten. He will have alot more success starting next year when he is older and more mature.

Don't worry, he will be fine. I think you mean pre-kindergarten. Send him when he is supposed to go.  He will be  more mature than the other kids, and won't tend to follow the crowd.

In NC the cut off date is mid October. And from my understanding that is going to change, I do not know when that will be. I would not worry that your son will be behind a year, just that he will be more mature. I am a teacher assistant and I have been with kindergarten and 1st graders. When kindergartners first start it is very different to them if they have been in preschool or if they have not been anywhere, if they are a younger 5 year old it sometimes takes a little longer (depending on the child) for them to grasp or to get the understanding of things, where it takes an older 5 year old less time. I would check with your local school system. I am not sure about private schools. I would think they would most likely be the same. Good Luck.

I have attached a list of the cutoff age state by state.  Your child has to turn 5 by a certain date, not 4.  So, you really still have at least a year if not two years before your child will start Kindergarten.

he'll have his 4th birthday in October?  kids don't start school til they're 5 or nearly 5.  call your school board offce to make sure, but I think he has to wait another year.  each school board has their own rules.  send him to preschool instead.

In my state the cut-off date is 9/1. Children have to be five on or before that date. I have never heard of children starting Kindergarten when they are 3.  Developmentally that just seems way too early. He wont be behind the average age to graduate is 17/18..I graduated when I was 18 b/c my birthday is in January and I missed the September cut off. Look into pre-schools if you want him to start school now. Not sure where you live at but here in DC children can start pre-k at 2 1/2. So check other public schools, or just reg education centers so he can still learn things until he start school next year.

He won't be behind...most kids start kindergarten when they are 4 turning 5, or even 5 turning 6. If you start him now (when he's only 3???) he'll be a year (or more) younger than everyone else.

No public school is gonna take a three year-old in kindergarten.

If you feel your son is really ready, you can ask the school district to test him.  A lot of school districts will test children and allow those that pass to enter even if their birthday is past the cut-off date.  You could also homeschool for a year and then your son would test next year to be in first grade.  Good Luck, I hope it all works out for you!
