Question:

Birthday Party Game Ideas? (8 - 9 year olds)?

My brother will be turning 9 years old on Friday. His birthday party is on Saturday and my mom allowed him to invite his whole class over. This is fine, excpt for the fact that she has nothing planned for the party. There will be 20 8-9 year olds at our house with nothing organized to do.

We own a big moon bounce (the carnival sized ones) but it is being fixed right now & might not be ready by Sunday, so we cant depend on that for entertainment. The only other thing we have asside from that are water balloons for a waterballoon toss (which is a bad idea becuase its not really that warm out around here, and if it rains we certianly can not do that)

I really dont have money to go out and spend on games for my brothers birthday (I just spent 200 dollars on gifts for him and my sister, i only work part time) ..

What kind of things can I have planned as backup? My mom really is not prepared at all for this party!!!

  1. Well, my sister recently had a party, shes 9 too.

Make the party around 3 hours long. Have a house party.

Have a Prize table, (if he likes action figures) you could get doller store little spiderman figureens. Kids die for those things. You could get little plastic water guns, Blow up balls, bouncy balls, Funk Glasses ( the big ones the size of your head, only like $1.00) For the girls, you could get cheap barbies, and little girly things, And other creative things:

    Some Great Money Saving Ideas:

If he likes SpiderMan Or Spongebob you could draw a SpongeBob on one of those big Sheets of paper, and leave sumthing missing ( Example: Spongebob has no pants) What you gotta do is Pin the Pants On Spongebob kinda thing. Whoever Does Best gets a prize.

Maybe instead of a water balloon toss, you could have a decorating contest. The watter balloon could be there own personal baby. Give each kid a marker to decorate the balloons face. You could get little things to decorate it. Best looking thing gets a prize.

You could get the children in pairs of twos, and then give them each a few rolls of toilet paper. Say they must make one person a mummy and one person a mummy decorater. The decorater should decorate the mummy to make him look cool, and set rules, No over eyes and mouth and nose, etc. Best looking money gets a prize.

    Watermelon eating contest.

Get them in teams, and give them each a cut in half watermelon. (seedless works best, so they dont choke) Get them to eat as much as they can in a certain amount of time, and not use there hands! The team who eats most of the watermelon first wins!

Dance Competions. Put on some good songs, and whoever dances best gets a prize.

Two legged Races. Get them in pairs again, tie one of each of there feets together, and whoever reachs a certain destination first wins a prise.

Opstical Cources. Get hoola hoops and make them run across them with each foot in each one, and then do other little creative things like that, and get like a bat and make them put there head on the bat and spin around 10 times, then make them run the course, it will be funny, fun and whoever wins gets a prize.

Scavenger hunt. Hide Clues around the yard, and make like a secret letter that each team finds. Then make each one differnt, and give a clue to each thing. ( Example, The clue lies by the shivvering cold water, which would be the pool) When they find that clue, it would say the next clue. The last clue would say sumthing like, Aii mi mateii ye found me treasure, go get yurself a PRIZE ME BUCKO!

    Pizza Making Contest.

Get some dough, and make them form it in there own shape, and decorate it with any toppings they want, and have about 5 different teams. So whoever has best pizza wins a pirze.!

Try to think of more creative little, cheap game ideas like that.

    Not so cheap Idea:

Get a Jumping Jamboree, They cost around 350 Dollars, look it up, and for parties they usually go cheaper.  The kids would die for it.

    Other Things:

Maybe get a movie of some sort to keep them entertained.

    Pinyatta.

    Twister, Or games like that!

Just let them go wild, let them play.

    Put on some music.

Get a loop bag, fill it with cheap 5 cent candies! put in some other little cheap party gifts, and maybe hand out the extra prizes to whoever didnt get one?

I thinks thats all i have to say, i hope your brother has a blast, i hope he has a great party, and all goes well! :) Have fun!

  2. you have 8 and 9 year old boys,  So they would enjoy a scavenger hunt,  flag foot ball,   a kick ball game any thing physical.   Basket ball I am sure you have  all those already in his room.  You could also play Red Rover,  Simon says with a twist,  you get pied if you mess up.   You can also play red light green light this same way the kids love it.  If you have a frisbie or two,  you could set up a frisbie toss.   Boys love to spit so  a game you could play is a watermellon seed spitting contest.

If you get rained out,  here are some indoor games you can play.   Yo can have them sit in a large circle,  have them remove their shoes and try to pass an empty two liter bottle with their feet with out droping it if you drop it you are out.  Burp is another game the boys like to play,  It is simular to hot potato, but you use a stuffed bear,  some one yells burp and the bear gets tossed up in the air.  If some one else catches the  bear,  the player is out.

a nother fun thing you could do if you have an old sheet available,  Is hang it on the wall, and hav all the kids write a birthday message on it for your brother.   You could also do this with paper just give every kid a peice of paper, have them write a birthday message and draw a picture of themselves.  staple it togeather he has a memory book signed by all his friends.

I have used all of these ideas myself and they all worked out great.

  3. musical chairs

    twister

    chalk

    pin the tail...

  4. Pin The Tail On The Donkey XD

Maybe a Singing COmpition or a Dance off

    XD

  5. Bury "treasure" in your backyard, and give them a map to find it.  Any other scavenger hunt will do, too.  Maybe you could split into teams, and go in separate cars, and collect free "mystery" items from around, and whoever gets back first with all correct items wins.

  6. sardines, it was my favorite game as a kid...

evry kid draws a straw, the one with the longest straw gets to hide while all of the other kids close their eyes and count to 30

when they're done counting they split up and try to find the kid hiding...

when a kid finds the kid hiding they have to squeeze in that hiding spot without any of the other kids noticing (hence the name sardines)

the first one to find the hiding spot then hides.... and the game starts over =]

  7. Little sally walker!!

Everyone gets in a circle while one person is chosen to walk around in front of the circle... everyone else will be singing:

"Little Sally Walker walking down the street. She didnt know what to do so she stoped in front of me. (at this point, the one in the middle stands in front of someone and does a dance move)

(Still singing....) Hey girl, do that thing do that thing and switch! (the the person that got picked does the dance move) (still singing) Hey girl do that thing do that thing and swich!

Its SO fun and hilarious to watch the kids dance!

I've attached the link where its from, and there are a TON of games to go through on it!

  18. OK, here is a good little indoors game.  Give all the kids a sheet of paper and a pencil.  Get them to put the paper on the top of their head and draw a circle.  Then say, that circle is the face of their school teacher.  Then, with the paper still on the top of their heads, get them to draw in the eyes, then the nose, then the lips, mouth, ears, hair etc.  They are not allowed to peek, until the drawing is finished.  The results are hilarious.
