I have been playing around with 2 different menu's for my son's 5th Birthday in October (I know a ways off but I am a big time planner and like to plan ahead of course I wont buy the food until the week of)

but I am having the party October 11th and here is the 1st menu

Hot Dogs (onions, ketchup, mustard, relish, chili etc.)

Homemade Mac n' Cheese

Veggie Tray

Fruit Tray

Potatoe Chips & Dip

Chili (Crackers & Cheese etc..)

Baked Beans

Second Menu

Sloppy Joes

Mac N Cheese

Baked Beans

Fruit Tray

Veggie Tray

Possibly a Cheese Plate

The last 3 Years we have had Sloppy Joes which have went over good but I am not sure if I want to mix it up a bit!

Let me know what you think or if you have another idea!

Of course there will be Cake and Ice Cream!

  1. I like the first menu better - autumn is the perfect time for chili. Does your son like football? If so, you could theme it as a "tailgate birthday party" and add football decor. Chili & hot dogs are great for tailgating so it would be a perfect fit.

  2. The first menu sounds like what my 4-1/2yr-old grandson would like best:) ...  Call your local fire or police department ahead of time.  They are usually happy to send a few people to kids' parties, to talk with the kids!  The firemen might even bring their truck...and they usually have little sticker badges that they give everyone!

  3. Since you have had Sloppy joes before, change it up and have Hot Dogs. Your menu looks great, maybe a a macaroni or potato salad for the adults!

  4. Most kids will enjoy hot dogs with the mac & cheese idea as well as the food's in the first menu. The second menu could be one messy idea but the foods sound delicious as well. Could you encorporate another meat dish if people do not like hot dogs? some hamburgers maybe?

  5. hum

a fith birthday seems to be a nice opportunity to start teaching ur boy about some more sophisticated and healthier food.

Fruits and vegies are a good start !

Unusual meats or cheeses might also be good ideas.

If u include hot chili, zucchinis are perfect to turn down the heat.

  6. Oct is a perfect time of year to have a weeny rost and kids love it, that is if you have a place to have it.

  7. I think the first menu would be best. All kids love hotdogs and mac n' cheese! Having both something for the kids as well as the adults is a great idea! Also, the fresh veggies and fruit are great healthy snacks for everyone. Have a great time!

  8. first menu..its cleaner

  9. The first one sounds really good.

  10. I agree that the first menu is more age appropriate menu as well as a "fun" adult menu.  I think that the chili is a great idea!

  11. I think go with the first menu if you're looking to mix it up a bit.

What sort of chilli would it be though, I mean is it appropriate for 5 year olds (chilli heat wise)

I like that both menus include the healthy fruit and veggie trays.

    Good job being so organised!
