Birthday party activities? Is what I have planned enough?

Hi. I am throwing my 7 year old a High School Musical Birthday party on Friday. I have 3 games planned. Pass the mic (which is like hot potatoe, but you pass a micorphone instead), we are going to do Karaoke, twister and dance dance revolution... Does anyone else have any ideas? Or do you think this is enough entertainment? Should I just end the party with the High School Musical movie? Thanks in advance for your ideas....

  1. Maybe play a game of American Idol, except twist it to High School Musical.  You could Make one person the drama teacher, one Gabriella, one Troy (?)*, one Sharpay, one Ryan (?)*, one Taylor, one Chad (?)*, then have them belt out according tunes to thier character from both movies.  Then give a little fake gold medal to the winner!  Or if that seems to cause too much trouble, don't give a reward.

    *Are there boys?

  2. Wow, what a great party, your kid is so lucky! can i come?  ;-)

Only thing is, i don't know if your 7yo is a boy or girl but the activities seem kinda girl-themed. If any of your guests are boys, I would balance it out a little. You DO NOT want bored 7yo boys drifting around your home. :)   Also, I learned the hard way that when the kids are that young, be sure to schedule some quiet activities strategically so that things don't get TOO crazy. Something as simple as a theme-oriented coloring/drawing/clay/or-other-form-of-a... contest with a cool prize for the crowd-chosen winner, or play a couple songs from the soundtrack (however many YOU need) and have them count the number of times a particular word is used, with a prize for whoever counts right. And play the music kinda low so they have to be still and quiet to listen carefully. Or--who can make the most words out of the letters in High School Musical?

Also--on an unrelated topic, the all-important Goodie Bag. For 7yo's, ALL candy from the party should be wisely given in goodie bags at the END of the party on their way HOME, and consumed there, NOT during the party. The birthday cake, etc., will be plenty of sugar already. You have to give them candy cause it will raise the cool level of the party like 8 points for the kids, but make sure they eat it AT HOME. Plus, it sorta keeps the party going for the kid even when its over, to keep digging through the bag for candy and little toys. So everyone wins.  :)

  3. It depends on the length of the party.     Allow some time for the opening of gifts-looking at them, eating dessert and socializing.

You could have a back up game of limbo.      My kids (and all of their friends) ALWAYS want to play limbo.     Any stick will work (mine is a wooden mop handle from the hardware store that I painted).        If you don't use it for this party, you can always use it at a school party or another birthday party or if you never use it, its only $5 wasted.

  4. I threw my daughter a Hannah Montana themed party and made my own bingo game with sayings from the TV show.  It was a big hit, especially since the winner of each round got to draw a prize (stuff I picked up from the Dollar Store).  My husband was there and I kept referring to him as my "lovely assistant" as we called out the numbers and the kids thought this was hysterical.

Maybe you can do this with the games you have planned or develop your own bingo game.  If you get me your email address I will email you the Hannah Montana bingo game for you to edit.  It's in a PowerPoint program.

Another thing I did was bake little cakes inside of ice cream cones.  You frost the top and they look just like microphones.  Kids loved it and it went faster than the birthday cake.

  5. try buying a scene it game..if there is one,

otherwise tht would be a good theme parrty!

    LOL

    yaaay
