Birthday present for a 4 year old boy............?

My daughter has been invited to a party by a boy she goes to play group with, and i need help on what to buy for a present. I don't know what he is interested in and i don't know what he already has. not to mention i have never brought anything for a boy! I'm in desperate need of ideas. THX.

my 4 yr olds at work (working in day care) really love Thomas the Tank engine, super hero's such as batman and spider man and anything to do with dinosaurs and insects.

To be honest kids love any form of new toy, it does not matter what it is. You could buy a book, costume or figurine. Perhaps ask your daughter what they like to play with together. This will give you some idea of what he may be interested in. If all fails a push along truck or car!

There is a wonderful Thomas the Tank drawing pad in the Toys'r"us store.

I don't know its name, but it is a large soft mat, and you draw with water pen. The Tomas the engine toy will then actually trace the drawn contures. Preety cool toy, my kids love it (they are 2, 4 and 5 yrs)

I posted the link, but you can find the same thing in Toys'r'us stores. it is very good toy, and will keep him amused for hours. And it is not very dear, $20-25 I think... Good luck!

You haven't said how much you want to spend but assuming it is about £7 possibly the following:

Cars - friction ones perhaps Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine, Noddy or Disney Cars.

Books - colouring with crayons, reading with characters similar to above.

DVD's or videos

Jigsaw puzzles - again same themes

Clothes - shorts, t shirts etc

Garden games - paddling pool, skittles, football, boules

Have You Thaught About a Spider Man Toy ? Or Batman ? Or Anything Like a Superhero, When i Was 4 I Loved Playing With Building equipment, Like Toy Crains And Stuff, Maybe a DVD ?? Hope Ive Helped, Maybe You Should Try Something Realy Cute ? Im Sure Whatever You But Him He Will Love IT.

buy:

puzzles (androgynous)

books (classics)

games  (maybe some your daughter enjoys, but not girly)

cd (raffi, the wiggles or something)

a backpack (you could fill it with school supplies, if he is going to school in the fall)

ie:

alphabet and number puzzle (giant foam)

the very hungry caterpillar

memory or chutes and ladders

ralphs world: at the bottom of the sea

solid backpack, pencils, crayons, markers, paper, folder

try not to fall into the 'typical' boy presents. it shows you didn't really know what to get the kid so you bought something blue.

don't get him clothes, honestly, how fun is it to open up clothes on your birthday? if you are a four year old boy.

try to have more educational-but-still-fun games and toys.

work on reading, writing, numbers, etc, since he'll be going into school (or is he turning four?) anyway it is always helpful!

try going to toys r us or targt they have some very cute things maybe get him a dvd? like kung fu panda or the wiggles? in my experience boys really like toy cars and not clothes so much because they cant play with it maybe even a game like childrens monopoly like this cute one and its disney or another one like spongebob. you  could even give him a voucher or sketch book and some coloured pencils from smiggle or kiki.k just so long as he can have fun with it he wont mid i he already has it hel be happy with anything after all he is only 4.

ask his mum what the theme in his room is, , boys that age like a particular theme from spiderman to bananas in pyjamas

Toys are great can't go wrong maybe he likes cars, animals or superheroes. Dvds are great to you can't go wrong. Good Luck

I always thought that children LOVE having their own money a small token like $5 note or $10 in a cool childrens card is exciting for a child. He will love being able to act all grown up with his own money. My little sister whose 5yrold loves to go buy her own toy or candy with her money. Its new and exciting.
