Question:

Birthday present for an 8 yr old girl?

My daughter's school friend is having a birthday party on Friday. Her family is a little on the less fortunate side, and I want to get a little more than I normally would. How can I go about this without being obvious and offensive to the parents? What gift might be appropriate? I would buy her an outfit, but the girl is a bit chunky and I don't have the foggiest idea what size she might wear. HELP?!

  1. Get her a summer/spring out fit or shoes

I got a friend last summer son a pair of Crocs

He loved them, he would never got a pair

They were a bit big, but he will get two or three years out of them

For Tops, but a large tops and shorts/pants/crops with a drawstring

Get the size you think will fit, and put in a receipt

    Chances are, they will fit

    The boy love the crops

He wants another pair, he been asking his mom, she said no

They are in style and fun

  2. I think you could get her a set of polly pockets or bratz dolls. usually bratz are ranging from 15$-30$. hope i helped!

  3. i would suggest an outfit aswell, but i know 8 year old kids can think something to wear can be boring, and if she dont know what kind of things she plays with you wont know what she likes, maybe one of them really cute choclate bunnies or teddybears from thorntons or something afterall ever kid loves choclate

  4. scooter or a bike

  5. webkinz!!

  6. Go for the outfit in a size 8.  Make sure in include a gift receipt.

Otherwise, other ideas include ANYTHING with Hannah Montana on it, a Leapster and age-appropriate games, some board games, books, Bratz......how about something that encourages physical activity like a pogo stick or a bike or a volleyball set or a slip n slide (summer will be here before you know it!).

  7. I just did the same thing for my daughters school friend.  We Went with the following:  A nice gift bag (so everthing was not wrapped indivually)  a High School Musical Tee.  We went one size up  try a large. She can always wear it as a night shirt.   A HSM cap, some pony holders, a diary and pen, stickers and some hair paint along with a travel shampoo.

and a stuffed bunny.  I got everything at Dollar General and my bill was about 20 bucks.    I should have thought about the summer stuff too.   My 7 year old wants a "goodie bag" of gifts now for her birthday.

Oh yeah, I also included a bouquet of Tootsie Roll lolliepops and a card.   I think "outfits" should be given by relatives and family not school friends but that's just my opinion.

  8. maybe some movies or Bratz dolls are alway big at that age

  9. Well I'd say you get a gift card to a clothing store and put that in the card and then buy some other present like a toy that the child can enjoy right away.  Because then I'm sure the parents will appreciate the gift card and can pick something out for themselves and the child will love whatever toy you get her because you know how younger kids and clothes are =p ...always a disappointment when that's ALL you get hehe.

    As for the toy part:

  10. I love the terrarium idea and books -- definitely!  I have a just turned 8 year old daughter.  My one change is this.  Size 8 will definitely be too small.  My daughter wears size 10 or 12.  She is tall although not chunky.  But if this girl is a bit chunky, she'll never fit in Size 8 -- I'd try a 10 or 12.

  11. The fairy Terrarium is awesome - we had that - but now it just sits around the plants don't live that long. Anyway, how about pajamas, slippers, a stuffed animal, a few books - 8 yr olds still like to read - especially girls - you could get her a cool diary for her to write in..... 8 yr olds - hanna montana, webkins, monkey's are really "in" now too..... you could make a theme gift this way it doesn't look like you randomly picked things because they aren't well off.... good luck - you are doing a nice thing!! ♥

  12. id say a motor powerd scooter and a few hair clips and stuf like that it worked for me give it a shot

  13. Ask the parents what does she like. They will be able to give you some ideas and that way you can pick out something she would like without offending anyone.

  14. she's chunky......that's hilarious....hahahahahhahahahahahahahaha...

  15. Talk to her parents about what type of things she likes and then use their ideas as to what to get her.  I'm sure her parents can give you some good ideas.  Or you can always buy an outfit and include the gift receipt in case it doesn't fit or isn't want she likes.

  16. Maybe a gift card to get a manicure or pedicure.

Gift card to a bookstore like Borders?

I would stay away from giving clothes.

  17. a gift card or a nice piece of jewelry or something

  18. My daughter just turned 9 a few months ago and I gave her several dolls from the Disney movie Enchanted. She absolutely loved them.

If you want to give clothes but don't know the size, don't be afraid to either give a gift card or buy what you think is close and include a gift receipt.

  19. You could always get her a gift and then give the mom a gift card for somewhere like Target and just tell her that you weren't sure of what she needed so you wanted the mom to pick something for her too.

Or just buy her the outfit and include a gift receipt.

  20. Anything Hannah Montana or High School Musical.  My daughter is 7 and I haven't met anyone around her age yet that doesn't like those two things.

  21. 8 yr old girl is pretty easy to shop for...ANYTHING Hannah Montana. Hannah Montana pillows, bedding, anything like that. go to wal-mart they are Hannah Montana crazy! If not Hannah Montana....How about a scooter or a soccer ball.
