Birthday present for your mom when you arent really close?

ok my friend has a really werid relationship with her mom, they hardly ever talk and shes doesnt even hug her! no even on chrismas, b-days, etc. its really sad! so she wants to change that by buying her mom a bday present for the first time in her life! so me and her are going to the mall tomorow, and she really doesnt know what to get her! any ideas?

I think a day at the spa with the both of them would really give them some really good mother daughter bonding time!

Think about where her mom likes shopping best, and get her a gift certificate from that place.

Gift card for a mother/daughter mani/pedi -but dont give mom the gift card but a photocopy of it along with a personal card explaining its a mother/daughter girls day out and for mom to make an appointment with her to go together. That way, she doesnt blow the card on just herself and forget about it the next day and make it a special 'get to know you better' day to remember!

How about a certificate for a manicure?  Those are usually about $8-$12.  A manicure and a pedicure certificate might cost $24-$30 -- just depends on how much she wants to spend.  It's something nice that her mom might not do for herself, and for a little while, she might enjoy the pampering.
