The Rhone Giants look forward to bolster their defensive unit amidst financial turmoil that has gripped the club in recent years
Remi Garde, man at the helm of affairs of the club, admitted his interest in the Serbian centre-back, but was quick to add that the looming financial crisis at the club has forced the club to sell more than they bring in.
The six feet one inch defender has been linked with the fourth-placed Ligue 1 outfit in a speculated exchange deal which could lead to the exit of Anthony Reveillere from Stade de Gerland.
Remi Garde, a former Arsenal player, in his brief interaction with OL TV, also relished the fact of how important it was for the team to have a central defender, which the club has been lacking for long. Midfield is another area the squad needs to strengthen,
as the recent sale of Kim Kallstrom to Spartak Moscow has created an impending room in the centre.
But the coach was unable to assure, if he could press the club, already in financial chaos, to push through any deal. According to the 46-year-old, ‘’It is possible that Kallstrom could be replaced, maybe a defensive midfielder could come in but there is
nothing concrete’’.
A visibly perturbed Remi Garde, due to lack of funds, also emphasized the need of a permanent workforce at the club before the start of the campaign with players fully invested in.
According to the boss, the adoption of a 4-2-3-1 strategy was the foremost priority of the club, as he aired his views on the summer buyings of rivals PSG. According to the manager, ‘’on paper this is a great team and the club has spent a lot of money’’.
But according to the young coach, money cannot win titles until there is cohesion in the dressing room between the players and club officials. It takes time for the squad to incur cohesion as he drew comparisons of the club with Manchester City and Chelsea.
The latter clubs took an appreciable period of time before the duo came to winning ways.
