http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishan-Singh-Bedi-c48133 takes a dig at the BCCI selectors over Sachin’s selection
Former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi on Thursday questioned http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556’s inclusion in the squad for next week’s Asia Cup, calling the selection spineless and confusing.
The BCCI selectors on Wednesday announced the 15-member squad for the quadrangular tournament to be held in Bangladesh between March 11 and 22. Whilst http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379 were overlooked for the tournament on fitness grounds, Sachin Tendulkar
was surprisingly given a chance to make up for his poor performances Down Under.
The 65-year-old Bedi, who feels Tendulkar was not consulted by the Indian selectors over the selection matter, insisted that the batting veteran also needs a rest, as his age does not allow him to play cricket continuously for long periods.
"I am still a little confused whether our selectors have actually spoken to Sachin Tendulkar about going to Bangladesh,” said Bedi, adding that such an inconsequential tournament is not meant for the players of Sachin’s stature.
"Sachin, too, deserved rest as he has played almost the same amount of cricket Down Under and more so because of his age,” said the former Indian skipper.
Sachin has been stuck on 99 hundreds since March last year. Bedi though, was unhappy over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607’s inclusion, and hopes that the legendary batsman scores his elusive hundredth century on Bangladeshi soil.
"I only hope that Sachin has not just been included with a wish that he could complete his 100th international century on Bangladesh soil,” said the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 off spinner.
"All I know is that our selectors are spineless and the myopia clearly reflects in their methods too. The selection is confusing and basically reflects a clogged mind,” he added further.
The 65-year-old former Indian skipper endorsed the selector’s decision of elevating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 to the vice-captaincy role and termed it as “a move in the right direction.” Wishing the middle order batsman a happy bright future, Bedi also hopes that he quickly
adapts to his new role and does not take it as a burden.
The 10th edition of the Asia Cup, which also features http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, gets underway on March 11. The Men in Blue will defend their title in the quadrangular tournament.
