Bishan Singh Bedi urges Indian batsman to shine
Former Indian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishan-Singh-Bedi-c48133 has urged the strong Indian batting line-up to perform more than their potential in order to cover up for poor fielding and modest bowling in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2011 that gets underway on 19 February.
The Indian legend feels that team India despite of their destructive batting, lacks bowling firepower and acute fielding skills. He added that the batsmen will have to add 50 additional runs to India’s total in every match to compensate for their bowling
and fielding.
Bedi told in an interview with a local news channel, “We have a reasonably experienced side. Batting is our strength. We don't have a terribly penetrating bowling and fielding is our weakest link. There are quite a few guys who are not quick on their feet
and it will be difficult to hide them. I think India will have to score at least 50 more runs to compensate for the lack of incisive bowling and sharp fielding.”
Also Bedi felt that it can be anybody’s tournament and given the kind of cricket that is going on these days, it is hard to predict any single team as clear favourites. He was of the opinion that the team who displays a better all-round effort on a given
day will prevail on the day.
Singh said, “I think we have the best chance to win the World Cup after 1983. Yes this is going to be the most open World Cup after 1975 and there are as many as five teams who can become champions.”
The legendary spinner felt that the Subcontinent giants boast a great batting line-up, as they have players such as Sachin Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 who could take any attack to the cleaners
on their day.
Bedi also highlighted that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Piyush-c82317 Chawla need to be consistent with their line and length.
This is going to be India’s best chance to win the global cricketing event for the second time in their history, as they will have the home advantage on their side.
However, they need to be wary of the fact that sometimes the home advantage can put extra pressure on a team as well.
