Bishopsfurze tipped for victory in Powerstown Chase at Clonmel
Bishopsfurze is most likely to come up with a winning performance in the Powerstown Chase at Clonmel on Thursday, February 16, 2012. The 2-mile-long event has five runners in the line-up, and is due to get underway at 2:35.
The list of contenders includes:
Bishopsfurze
Tango Banbou
Action Master
Friendly Society
Island Wood
Courtesy of his recent good performance, Bishopsfurze is enjoying the favourite tag. So far in his career, the seven-year-old gelding has made six outings in hurdle races, and coming out as a victor on three occasions. Likewise, his record on the flat track
is quite impressive, with a win in total two outings.
Hence, the Bookies have every reason to rate him high. Only point that goes against him is a poor show in the W.T. O'Grady Memorial European Breeders Fund Novice Chase, where he fell down terribly. His confidence might be a bit shaky after that awful tumble,
but the talented gelding can still be declared as the favourite.
Bishopsfurze’s stable mate, Tango Banbou, will also fancy his chances in today’s race. The five-year-old registered his last win in October last year, when he defeated, Seigneur Du Mee, and Sinner, to wreste top position in the Prix Alain de Montillet in
France.
After a couple of poor performances at the end of 2011, the colt is making his first outing this year. Therefore, it is going to be a very important race for Tango Banbou, as his connections will be hoping for a powerful act just before the Cheltenham Festival.
Action Master, has decent chances too. The six-year-old gelding is coming out on the track for the first time since September 25, when he finished fourth in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Captain Christy Novice Chase.
After such a long break, a win will be crucial for him to boost up his confidence. Despite the fact that it will be an uphill task for D. T. Hughes’ trainee to outclass Mullins’ duo, he is definitely a strong contender for a place among the top three.
Friendly Society and Island Wood are the two least favourite participants in the event. Due to a dismal show early on in the Follow Us On Facebook Novice Chase, the jockey, A. P. Heskin pulled, Friendly Society, out of the race on February 4. Similarly,
Island Wood is also stepping in with a poor run to his credit. Therefore, it is going to be a touch risky to put money on the duo.
Prediction
Bishopsfurze is hot favourite because of his talent, and recent superb stats. Tango Banbou, and Action Master, will battle hard for second position. Like always, an upset can’t be ruled out of the equation..
