Bismack Biyombo claims he will lead the league in rebounds and blocks - NBA Draft News
Bismack Biyombo has not had the most successful pre-draft workouts and many scouts and coaches have been left unimpressed by the Congolese big man. However, that does not seem to have dented the confidence of the player who made
seriously tall claims in a recent interview.
Bismack claimed that once he is in the NBA, he will lead the league in blocking and rebounding. The player certainly is a defensive specialist and his work has made him standout in the Spanish ACB league, however those are still
very, very optimistic projections.
The player stands 6-foot-9, has a large wingspan and at 18 years of age he has a lot of time to improve. He certainly doesn’t lack confidence and in the interview Bismack stated the reasons he believes will make him a hit in the
NBA,
“In the NBA, I’m sure that I can block a lot of shots, more than I do in the ACB. I can get a lot of rebounds than I do here in the ACB. Why? The reason is, in the NBA there is a lot of one-on-one. A lot of times I watch games,
they’re trying to force stuff. They’re trying to go just one-on-one and get the basket. I can say for myself the best block shots are not with your man. It’s when you’re going to help someone.”
The scribe asked Bismack if he believed he was going to lead the NBA in blocks, Bismack responded,
“I do.”
He was asked the question again and gave an affirmative answer again. Then the interviewer asked Bismack can he lead the NBA in rebounding and Bismack’s answer was even more resounding,
“Yes, I will.”
Taken aback by the young centre/forward’s brash confidence, the scribe asked again. Bismack’s reply,
“Yes. Of course. Hundred percent.”
Biyombo confessed that he loves watching Minnesota Timberwolves big man Kevin Love in action. However unlike Love, Bismack is severely challenged on the offensive end. His shot is unrefined, left hand isn’t good and footwork is
off.
Still the player is a good defender and has a passion for rebounds and blocks. The NBA has seen many strong big men who lacked finesse in attack but forged impressive careers for themselves through hard work and dedication on the
defensive end.
Bismack certainly has the hunger to succeed and if Joel Anthony can make such an impact with the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Chicago Bulls through defensive effort alone, Bismack has a case to be drafted
pretty high.
Which NBA team will be willing to bet on the Congolese is yet to be seen
