Bismack Biyombo guarantees he will play for Charlotte Bobcats next season: NBA Update
Bismack Biyombo was drafted by the Sacramento Kings with the 7th pick in the 2011 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft and on the same night, his rights were traded to the Charlotte Bobcats.
At the time of draft, the young centre was still under contract with a Spanish team, Baloncesto Fuenlabrada and apparently he cannot play for the Bobcats until they buyout his $1.4 million contract.
Under the current NBA rules, a franchise can pay only upto 50,000 dollars to free a player from a previous contact and the rest of the differential has to be paid by the individual player. Although, the Spanish club has been very
clear that they will not let Biyombo go till the time they get their money, Biyombo has time and again declared that he will play for the Bobcats next season come whatever may. Recently, he re-iterated that pledge.
“I can guarantee a lot of people. There’s a lot of things going on with that and we’re working on that and hopefully before the season start we can get it done. I’m pretty sure [this] season I’m going to be there and I’m in my
team jersey playing for Charlotte and be in the league. For sure I’ll be in the league. A lot of people heard different stuff, but I guarantee people I will be in the league. We’re working on the contract and everything and it’ll be OK. There is no worries
about it.”
Earlier in July, Jorge Sanz, who is spokesman for the Spanish basketball club Fuenlabrada, spoke to the media and explained the view point of his franchise. Biyombo is under contract with Fuenlabrada for the next two seasons, but
if Biyombo wants to leave he has to pay up. There have been reports of negotiations involving all the three parties – Biyombo, the Bobcats and Fuenlabrada - but the picture is still very vague and so is Biyombo’s prospect of playing for the Bobcats.
Bismack Biyombo was one of the top drafts. Before being drafted in NBA, Biyombo played basketball in Spain, where he joined the junior team of Fuenlabrada. After displaying extraordinary skills with the junior team, he was immediately
called up by the Fuenlabrada’s senior team and played his first professional game on 9th January, 2011 against the DKV Joventut.
The centre has been the centre of attraction ever since he decided to set foot in NBA. Apart from the contractual issue, his age also came into question for a while and it seems that the Bobcats big will continue to make some headlines
in the near future.
