Bismack Biyombo names Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin Garnett and Kevin Love as his idols – NBA Update
The NBA draft 2011 is getting closer with every minute and the fascination of the NBA fans with the prospects continues to grow. One such prospect is Bismack Biyombo. The 6-foot-9 Congolese big man recently sat down for an interview
and spoke candidly about a number of topics.
An interesting one was Bismack’s favourite player,
“Hakeem Olajuwon, this is my favourite player.” Said Biyombo.
Hakeem Olajuwon is one of the all-time great centres to play the game of basketball. The player was a monster on both ends of the court and he led the Houston Rockets to two consecutive NBA World Championships back in 1994 and
1995.
Olajuwon is indeed a worthy idol and provides inspiration to many young basketball players throughout the world.
Bismack also named two current players that he looked up to, the first of them is a certain 6-foot-11 future Hall of Famer, who plays for the Boston Celtics,
“Kevin Garnett — I like the way he wants to win every game. Every time he’s on the floor, he plays intense and plays hard. When he’s not on the floor, you can see the team missing him.”
Garnett is one of the most intense defenders the game has ever seen. Over the years his offensive contribution has dwindled, but Garnett remains as hungry as ever to get in a block, to help out a teammate or get a stop any way
possible. His effort and resilience is second to none.
With Biyombo himself being an accomplished defensive player who can get in blocks and is a strong presence on the glass, it certainly makes sense for the player to have Kevin Garnett as a role model.
There was one more player that Bismack Biyombo mentioned as a favourite of his,
“On the other hand is Kevin Love.”
Kevin Love has had an enormously impressive third year in the league last season and has become a firm crowd favourite for the Minnesota Timberwolves fans. The player put up superb numbers in the regular season at over 20 points
per game and over 15 rebounds per game.
The former UCLA player can now add Bismack Biyombo to his growing list of admirers,
“I love the way he plays the game. He’s smart; he knows where to be to get the rebound. He’s the best guy at grabbing the rebound over anyone.”
After declaring his love for the three players, Biyombo ruled out trying to emulate any one of them. The Congolese believed that all three were great players but said he wouldn’t get anywhere if he tried to be the next Garnett
or Love or Olajuwon.
Instead, Biyombo said he would be himself and take what he can from his idols,
“I’m just gonna take some things from each of them, and that’s gonna make me a little better.”
