Bismack Biyombo will play for Charlotte Bobcats next season – NBA News
Bismack Biyombo is a young man who has already made plenty of headlines without even playing a game in the NBA. His tall claims brought him to the spotlight and then there was the controversy over his age.
The latest issue involving Biyombo is centred on the very basic question of whether he will actually play in NBA next season.
According to his agent, Igor Crespo, he will.
Crespo who represents Biyombo promised to the press that his client will be with the Charlotte Bobcats at the start of the next NBA season, whenever that may be,
“At the time the lockout is over and the season starts, the player will be playing with the Bobcats,” Igor Crespo told the Press in a phone interview. “Everything else is not relevant…”
Bismack’s situation is a little complicated though. The player played with Fuenlabrada last season in the Spanish ACB league. The club doesn’t want to let go of the teenager as they have him under contract for another two seasons
unless, of course, someone pays out his $1.4 million buyout clause.
According to NBA rules, the Bobcats are allowed only to pay $500,000 of that money. The rest of it must come from somewhere else.
However Crespo did not divulge any information in this regard.
“I cannot give any details for anyone,” Crespo said. “But the only thing you need to know is whenever the season starts, whether that’s October, November, December or February, the player will be there to play with the Bobcats
from the first game.”
The claims by his agent seem to indicate that Biyombo, the Charlotte Bobcats and the Spanish side that has him under contract, have all come to some kind of an agreement to let the player play in the NBA next season.
The player who stands 6-foot-9 and is renowned for his high energy defensive game has himself said he wants to come over to the NBA.
Previously it had been speculated that Biyombo could play another season in Spain because of the $1.4 million buyout clause. That could still be the case; at least until the NBA season begins. It is likely the Bismack will play
for Fuenlabrada for a while and come to the United States once the NBA lockout ends.
However, from where the $900,000 will come from is anybody’s guess. At this point the press can only speculate as neither party is willing to talk on the issue. The only comment we have received is from Bismack’s agent who says
he will play for the Bobcats soon.
