I just started using BitTorrent and whenever I go to download something off of a website the person always says something like "please seed this!". What does "seed" mean?

  1. Seed means that when done downloading you upload the file still, so others can DL too

  2. A seeder in the bit torrent world is a person who has the whole file and is sharing the file with everyone who has the bit torrent file. Seeders are absolutely necessary and without a seeder for a bit torrent file, no one can get the whole file. Generally when you download a whole bit torrent file, you seed it for at least 12 hours. That way you are giving back what you taken.

  3. A seeder is someone downloading the file or who leaves the torrent on their computer even after they have downloaded the file so other people can download from them. The more seeders the faster you will be able to download the file because you have more sources to download from.

  4. When a file is seeding it means it is a complete file waiting to be up/downloaded (depeing where it is). These are what you are looking for when searching for a file (the more seeds the better odds of you getting the complete file).
