Bitburger Open GP Gold 2012: Rong Wang and Zhibo Zhang storm into Women’s Doubles final
Macau’s Rong Wang and Zhibo Zhang surprised everyone who witnessed them playing incredible badminton in Women’s Doubles semi-final when they outplayed Singapore’s Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao at Bitburger Open GP Gold 2012 in Germany, on Saturday, November
3.
The un-seeded Rong and Zhibo, who remained impressive on court throughout the tournament, played with great speed and precision and managed to overpower their higher ranked Singaporean rivals by taking just 39 minutes on court.
It was the best performance of Rong and Zhibo so far as they have reached into Women’s Doubles final after showing a great performance in the last-four stage by ending up the fight in straight sets with a reasonable difference.
The top seeded Shinta and Lei, on the other hand, were shocked with the impressive performance of their un-seeded Macau rivals. They failed to maintain their upper hand in the arena and eventually lost the match in two games.
The incredible speed and powerful shots of Rong and Zhibo helped them to take charge of the affairs in the initial rallies of opening set.
Rong and Zhibo were very quick in taking the bird from net and they did not encounter any problem in hitting powerful strokes in targeted areas.
Macau shuttlers were remained in dictating position all the way and established a remarkable lead until the end of first part.
Top seeded Shinta and Lei tried their best to play positive badminton but could not take control of rallies and remained struggling in the concluding half.
On the other hand, Rong and Zhibo were focused and consistent in employing powerful shots in targeted areas and they eventually took the first set with a decent total of 21-18.
However, the top seeded Singaporeans showed their brilliance in the second game when they played with aggressive approach and remained close to their talented opponents until the one-minute break.
After the break, both pairs continued playing aggressive badminton and reached at the nail-biting stage of 20-20 when Rong and Zhibo showed wonderful aggression and took the set with a tight 22-20 score on the board.
Rong and Zhibo emerged as the winner in this semi-final contest against their top seeded Singaporean opponents with a close margin of 21-18 and 22-20.
